I understand yesterdays and today's flight were both full. Read the following press release from Dublin Airport and it states that Aer Lingus regional has over 5,000 seat booked already since the route was launched last month.

I wonder how many are connecting onto the USA, and how many are point-to-point (where Aer Lingus are up against Ryanair).

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

Well I am astonished! In a good way!

Since the first flight, flights are going out with between 50 to 70+ passengers! On an aircraft seating 72 maximum.

This has to be one of the most successful new route launches in the airports history & miraculous too!

It was launched with a very short lead time and for the first few weeks, you could not even book connecting flights!

These loads are fantastic and long may they continue! There was even a launch dinner in Leeds city centre full of business types & the First Direct Arena was lit up in the Irish flag colours.

Its clear that this route is very viable and important to LBA!

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

I noticed an advert on a bus (was one of the First Leeds ones) for the Air Linugs route, so they are doing some promotion of it in the area.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

Aer Lingus Regional will operate their regular double daily schedule from tomorrow. It looks like the early morning outbound tomorrow from Leeds might well be completely full. A one way dummy booking for just one traveller is only bringing up the evening departure as a bookable option. Fantastic start for them at Leeds.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

It is indeed, but Aer Lingus have always been popular at LBA. The wonder is that they left in the first place and never came back for 14 years. What will be interesting to see is the impact (if any) on Ryanair. Hopefully they too will fly full aircraft. It is not so many years ago that DUB was LBA's busiest route by some margin.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

I note that for the summer season Aer Lingus website is showing only a single daily rotation DUB-LBA-DUB. This is the morning rotation. I wonder whether this is significant and reflects a focus on Trans-Atlantic connections to the virtual exclusion of point-to-point traffic, or whether we can expect an evening rotation to be added at a later date.

The full schedule is not loaded yet and is the same for other airports. The basic morning rotation is in place so passengers can book Trans Atlantic flights recognising that long haul trips need to be booked a lot further in advance than point to point trips.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

Noticed they used an ATR42 yesterday morning so would seem the loads do not need the larger ATR72 aircraft at the moment.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

I see that they have just announced Dublin to Newquay. I wonder if we will be able to book LBA-DUB-NQY. Would be an interesting way to get to Newquay and still a damn sight quicker than by coach or train.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

Good news, as it would seem from the start of the summer 2015 scheduled in March Aer Lingus are adding a 3rd daily Friday afternoon service on the Leeds/Bradford - Dublin route.

It will operate as follows:
EI3392 = DUB 13:20 > LBA 14:40 / EI3393 = LBA 15:05 > DUB 16:20

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

I was chatting to a lady last night who works for servisair. She checked in the EI last Saturday morning. She told me there were approx 35 pax on board and there were 10 going onto JFK. The most US connections she has done so far on one flight was 26.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

That is good news. If they are adding the 3rd rotation then it suggests forward bookings warrant it to be there during the summer. It makes a change to see a new operation expanding rather than coming and going again without being given a realistic chance - as was the case with SAS.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

My duaghter who uses the Dublin link to get to JFK told me recently she has never been the only passenger going from LBA to the States, there is usually around a dozen.
She used to do Manchester-Shannon-JFK and thinks the LBA link will do well, she has already from LBA travelled with a passenger who used to do the manchester link, but now moved to Leeds-JFK

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

Started to see quite a few adverts appearing for the Aer Lingus Leeds/Bradford flights on the side of Firstbuses double deckers in and around Leeds area.

Noticed today they have gone announced that there returning to the Dublin - Doncaster/Sheffield route this summer season operating a 5x weekly (MON, TUE, THU, FRI & SUN) service on a "use it or lose it basis".

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

This nice little cheeky advertisement Video from Aer Lingus about the advantage of US Customs and Immigration pre-clearance at Dublin Airport against using London appeared in my email inbox today.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

Have to say my daughter loves clearing customs in Dublin now, before able to fly from LBA did manchester-shannon (customs clearence here)-JFK. This weekend not working in Europe and is enjoying the night life of Dublin.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

Just seen somebody post this on Twitter about Aer Lingus:

'Driven by Air Lingus from Leeds to Manchester airport because their plane couldn't deal with my extra weight, excuse me'

I suppose the good thing which I would assume is that the flights are selling well and passengers are taking extra baggage with them

however surely it is a bad image for Aer Lingus and a waste of the passengers time who have to go to Manchester, surely if the flights are selling well and with extra baggage etc, Aer Lingus could up the aircraft?

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

The problem with that is that there is nothing in size between the Stobart ATR72 and the Aer Lingus A319. It is surely too big a jump in the number of seats available to be of use.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
