Airport West

I noticed yesterday that a new sign has gone up on the development say "design and build opportunity" so it looks like this project is still going ahead despite the recession. The next phase is expected to incorporate larger units than what we've seen so far.

I think the next phase to be built is phase 3 shown to the left of this image.

Unit 12 should provide quite an entrance to the site.

Does anyone know if this is still going ahead as planned? The "design & build" sign is still there.

Well all has been quiet on the Airport West site since the start of the recession but there are still signs up indicating all is not dead and berried. Does anybody know if the next phase of the plans are still going to go ahead at some stage?

I might have thought Jet2 would be good there, despite it being presumably a lot more expensive than where they are currently.

A great huge Jet2 and Jet2Holidays logo on that Glass wall I think would look good.

Cunning Plan No 1 – win Euro Millions tonight

Cunning Plan No 2 – retire

Cunning Plan No 3 – go to the airport bosses and offer to pay for a new landside mezzanine floor above the cafe, and turn it into a cafe with viewing and separate private room for use by Air Yorkshire members

Cunning Plan No 4 – after being told to do a runner by the airport bosses, go to Cunning Plan No 5

Cunning Plan No 5 – buy the end house on Glenmere Mount. If they don’t sell, go to Cunning Plan No 6

Cunning Plan No 6 – there is no plan 6!!

Cunning Plan No 7– rent a top floor at Airport West facing the runway, with:-

Comfy sofas
Kitchenette with fridge, kettle and Microwave oven
PC with 52’’ plasma screen with Flightradar24 on
Another 52’’ plasma screen TV with LBA arrivals page on
Another 52’’ plasma screen TV with Dave or CBBC on – beats X-Factor any day!!
Snooker and pool tables
Space Cadet pinball machine
Digital Hi-Fi with surround sound system
Land line phone with speed dial numbers for Dominos Pizzas and SJK
Newspaper delivery service

Does anyone know who owns that end house?? I think it's Victoria Avenue anyway isn't it..?

But I like your thinking Bigman, can I join you? ;)

I seem to remember the airport owned the last 2 semi's on Victoria Avenue.
I think Heather could confirm this.

The houses on Victoria Avenue are not owned by the airport, but by the local authorities who used to own LBA. This was the subject of discussions at the most recent consultative meeting.

Bigman, I also like your thinking, so count me in. Sounds like a great idea actually! I don't suppose the airport would care as long as they let the office space, and what better place to have a viewing deck, snooker hall, aviation enthusiasit centre etc. Add a bar, Sky Sports etc and your'e on to a winner!

The only snag with Bigman's idea is that you would be looking into the Sun for most of the day, no good for photographs.

[textarea]Businesses set to land at airport location

ENTREPRENEUR Jim Hart is to move his businesses, Europlus Direct and One Global, from Saltaire to new premises near Leeds-Bradford Airport to cater for their future growth.

The acquisition of the 6,100 sq ft site at Airport West was backed by a £450,000 funding package from HSBC and was supported by commercial property consultancy Atkinson Associates.

Europlus Direct specialises in the sale of IBM maintenance services contracts, and has twice won a Queen’s Award for International Trade since its inception in 2004.

Nice to see more take-up on the Airport West site. Hopefully it wont be long before the press ahead with the next two phases.

Where is the airport west site? are they moving into an airport out building?

Airport West is the office park that’s strategically positioned fronting on to the A658 Harrogate Road next to Coney Park opposite the old Avro Hangar and sits adjacent to Leeds Bradford International Airport

See following PDF link for full details. http://www.rushbond.co.uk/pdf/AirportWest.pdf

Hope that helps...

Somewhat different from what was originally planned, Greene King is working with the developers, the Rushbond Group to build a new Farmhouse Inn Pub. Basically something like Stoops. What are peoples thoughts on this development? It sounds good in principle but will it lead to people leaving the airport site after check-in to go for a quick cheap meal before flying which in all intense and purpose is illegal? I think what is missing from the plans is a decent hotel which LBA lacks as the small on-site Travelodge doesn't even have basic food facilities.

Here are the plans anyway:

You hit the nail on the head Aviador when you mention the lack of accommodation in the proposal. I think they are missing a very big trick there. They would clean up and put the cat amongst the pigeons as far as Premier Inn and Travelodge were concerned if they included rooms in the development.

The only real impact I see this having is to nick punters from the Square Monkey cafe due to free parking, longer opening hours and a greater choice of menu. It will of course be great for a night out in the Summer months, ie beer + spotting = great evening!!

Aviador: Is it illegal to book in and leave the airport. We often go up to the airport, leave the cases and then go to Morrisons for breakfast. We have booked in online and a late morning flight, just return to the airport with 30 minutes to go.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
