American Airlines in Summer 2015 season plans to expand service to Europe, with additional service to Frankfurt and London Heathrow, as well as new operation to Edinburgh and Birmingham. Operational schedule are currently listed under US Airways’ US code.

Reservation for these new flights, under AA and US code, is expected to open on Sunday 02NOV14.

New York JFK – Birmingham NEW daily service from 07MAY15
AA130 JFK1900 – 0710+1BHX 757 D
AA131 BHX1000 – 1255JFK 757 D

Looks as though it'll be seasonal but hopefully it'll do well enough to warrant some sort of winter operation in the future. Great news.

Pleased at the return of AA.Slightly disappointed that ORD has not returned.
I just hope it does not affect the EWR loads,as that is what BHX does not need, especially if this route turns out to be seasonal only.
I wonder if this is what Paul Kehoe was referring to when he said that the visit to routes in Chicago was the best ever,or is this just the start???

It's good news that BHX has another long haul scheduled route with another major airline.

BHX is the only realistic alternative for people in the West Country (like me) if they don't want to use London airports for long haul, so the more long haul choice from BHX the better so far as I'm concerned. This really goes for South Wales residents too.

I've often wondered why BHX doesn't do an advertising campaign across South Wales and parts of the South West, not so much for European flights as BRS already has an extensive network, but for long haul and some of the one stop connections available. I'm sure if people were made aware of what's on offer there would be those who would prefer to avoid the London airports and if some of the more affluent customers could be persuaded it would only help improve the BHX yields, which as we know makes or breaks a service.

Fantastic news for BHX and superb to see AA back. However a few words of caution- use it or loose it. AA will only keep this service going while they make money. Bear in mind that a 757 is restricted for cargo capacity both weight wise and height wise. I wish AA all the very best for this service but I am not holding my breath that it wil stay any longer than the US Airways effort a few years ago.

Absolutely correct, Ray. I seem to remember us having this conversation before but it does seem so obvious.

Perhaps those who are on Mr Kehoe's email list might like to ask him when next in contact. Having spent a short time as CEO at BRS he will know the possibilities.

I have just seen this news, FANTASTIC NEWS.

Im even having a celebration drink as i speak, well it is saturday night after all.

Also the 757, my favourite aircraft will be seen more than ever at BHX next year, with AA, United, Icelandair and Thomson operating this aircraft.

2015 should be a great year for BHX with new records broken, hopefully.

Well done to all concerned. :good: :good: :good: :good: :good:

I'm also enjoying a nice glass of Malbec :drinks:

After a bit of a lean period it's nice that things are finally starting to happen, albeit slowly. Air India returning last year was well overdue and now we'll have AA back next year but CL44 is right, those people who have been calling for the route for so long now need to use it, especially the premium pax in the front end.

Must be something about the BHX thread that gets the glasses out. I'm having to settle for a mug of tea.

Good news day though so you're entitled. :coco:

Mrs Finkle is getting her weekly dose of X Factor so I need a glass or two of something to dull the pain

Well done BHX you deserve a new long haul route to the us. It will be nice to see a new tail in the airport. Hope it will will be all year round in future years

....It's actually hot coco Local Yokel!!! (hover over it  )

As for the news WELL DONE BHX!!!! :drinks:

It's up to you guys now if you want to keep it! More often than not business leaders claim they want and need links like this but then they don't back them when they get them. Let's hope BHX can do some serious advertising now to get people from the West Midlands behind the new American Airlines route to JFK.

Please BHX Board, spend the money now and inform all those folks around me who disappear bafflingly to Bristol, Heathrow, East Midlands and even Gatwick and then learn that they could have travelled from nearby BHX. It's NOT rocket science ... it's marketing! Not only that, tell them about the rail possibilities for reaching BHX, and strive quickly to improve them. :shout:

Also puts to bed the rumours about AA vowing they would NEVER return to BHX!

How could they ever say NEVER about such a Fantastic Airport, slap bang in the middle of the country, and dont forget BHX has changed such alot since the days of the gas guzzling AA 767-200s stuck on the end of the old Eurohub. I wish them all the success and they appreciate what a great facility we have here. We need to shout more about our airport and its assetts.

I agree, BHX needs to do more about its offer. Ive just had a great idea and especially since next year is the opeing of the NEW new street station which acts as a starter point form many travelling to Birmingham INT/Airport, just like they have the Departures and Arrivals boards in the actual Train station just before you get on the monorail, maybe they could have these placed in some part of the new shiny station which would certainly educate millions of people each year on the range of destinations offered from the airport 10 mins train journey away ????????

I mean imagine getting on your 08.00 train to Longbridge and seeing New York JFK, New York Newark and Delhi, Via Amritsar Rajah, it would look good and ambitious.

Just had a message from AA on my facebook page:

We're excited to be flying back to Birmingham, Alan. Have a great Sunday! :good:

Totally agree. The infrastructure is now in place, the long haul offering is slowly growing so now it's time to tell people now about what's available for S15. The immediate priority must be the Greater Birmingham region but why not extend it across the East Midlands and parts of South Yorkshire, down the M5 corridor and the Cotswolds as far as Bristol and South Wales and along the M40 corridor through Oxfordshire and even across into Bedfordshire? Billboards, adverts on local radio and even pages in local newspapers could do wonders for BHX and potentially bring in alot of new customers, the down side however is advertising costs money and a campaign of this size would be extremely expensive.

Mr Kehoe is always on about clawing back the customers leaving the region, well now it's time to tell them why they don't have to.

That's a great idea and one which I imagine wouldn't be too expensive, it may also educate one or two people possibly heading to London to catch flights. Maybe you could email Mr Kehoe with the suggestion. :hatsoff:

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
