I have no issues as such with self-service, when it works it can be a great deal quicker and I much prefer it. The issue comes when I hear the dreaded 'unexpected item in the bagging area' or I am purchasing something that requires age verification, it's then that I am at the mercy of whoever is on duty at the time. Some of the staff at my local Tesco are totally on the ball and are over straight away to oblige, others however seem to be too distracted by talking to colleagues, picking their nails or just staring in to empty space to help. They are all polite enough when I finally do manage to grab some one but on certain days that can be a real chore.

As for the airport ones, yes I am always that guy who attempts to buy something without having a boarding pass on him. I tend to nip to the loo before heading to the gate and then decide to grab some water on the way back, I always leave my bag with Mrs F when I do so forgetting that I need the pass. One day I'll remember but until that day comes, I apologise :shamefullyembarrassed:

Love the Shannon photo. Had me fooled until I saw the winglets.

Prediction time for the country's most bonkers and passionate derby. I am going 2-1. I think the Blues after a tepid run will have a raging desire.

Oh no its not that time of the year again is it. ;)

Sunday will be a no go for me then, doors locked, bolted, until peace and tranquility returns again to the east of the city in the afternoon.

Have a great day lads(y)

I really can't call it this time, both teams can beat anyone on their day yet both teams can be totally useless.

I'll be there anyway so hoping for a decent game and a positive result for the home team.

Just put the "National" news on at 1pm and what do I see but a football fan (Sorry a Moron) running onto the pitch and smacking a punch to a rival footballer.

And yes the BBC were quick to put that on the news about the Second City Derby, but seriously what planet do some football fans live on and who do they think they are ??

Has Jeremy Peace resurfaced at West Bromwich Albion? I was stunned to hear that Darren Moore had been dismissed, a decent man by all accounts. And today I read of a player being assaulted by a spectator. The game is losing it's attraction and Tiddlywinks are gaining followers and bad stuff about football always tweaks the BBC and politicians in turn shall become even more vocal.

Meanwhile, the Rugby was wonderful viewing!

Given up. Pathetic lot. Ray did say he was off the the game....was it he?

We lost. The other lot won. The city lost because of the idiots. Ho hum

I agree about Darren Moore. WBA are fourth in the division for heavens sake. The English Championship is arguably the most competitive of any major league in the world. There are currently eight clubs within six points of 6th place (the final play-off spot). It's an old football saying but this season it's true that almost any Championship team can beat any of the others on its day. No club has a divine right to promotion. Those at the top of the WBA hierarchy should recognise that.

The game of association football (to distinguish it from other football codes - I refuse to call it soccer) is a wonderfully simple game in essence which is why it's easily the most popular team sport in the world, probably the most popular sport full stop. Unfortunately it's being ruined by money and by some morons who supposedly support 'their' team.

There isn't much hooliganism in rugby away from the pitch (such things as ear-biting and eye-gouging as well as more indelicate forms of assault are not unknown on it) although some members of rugby crowds aren't always the best behaved. A few years ago I left Twickenham after watching a Calcutta Cup match (England v Scotland) and I was greeted with the sight of spectators leaving the stadium openly urinating against someone's garden wall outside the ground.

There might be some merit in altering the old saying that rugby is a hooligans game played by gentlemen whilst football is a gentlemens game played by hooligans to football is a gentlemens game watched by hooligans. All of it is a generalisation and unfair of course, but as someone who in his young days played rugby union for a mediocre Somerset Under 17s side amongst others and in an even more mediocre semi-professional football league - and I still follow both codes with interest - I cannot argue that there is not an imbecilic fringe amongst those who follow the round-ball game. Part of it seems to be a form of tribalism.

Interesting scoreline at St Andrews.

As long as I've been following Blues the same match report so often applies.

Dominated the game.......lots of great football but cannot capitalise by scoring.......conceded against the run of play.......lost.

That pretty much sums up today.

As for that idiot, I hope that they make a real example of him. Blues fans already have a very poor reputation wherever they go and this moron confirmed it live on television. There was lots of clapping around where I was sat but I think (hope) that it was directed towards him getting nicked.

As is so often the case there is a minority that spoil it for the rest.

I am seriously thinking of taking my lad to a Wasps game and steering him towards rugby instead.

I gave up with football many years ago. I rarely watch it on the TV but would never actually visit a ground because of the hooligans that 'infest' them.

On this occasion the law may well be able to secure a severe sentence. For, if i have understood the circumstances correctly, the 'idiot' not only invaded the pitch but struck a player as well. At the minimum i would hope he would face a charge of common assault but, hopefully, the more serious charge of assault causing actual bodily harm (ABH). I would hope that would put him away for a sizeable period.

There are also stories emerging of a steward kicking out at Jack Grealish as he began his celebration after scoring.Probably unwise to jump into the crowd, even if it was with the Villa supporters.

Totally agree about the difference between fans at rugby games.
I was at an England v Wales game at Twickenham a couple of years ago. There was no real segregation between fans, and plenty of ‘banter’ going on, but good humoured and no major incidents.
Only complaint was that I almost has booze all over me,was completely accidental, when fans got a bit too excited when England scored a try.The chap responsible did apologise however so no harm done and we all went home happy.Never ever felt in danger when at rugby games and I have been to a good number now.
I have been to a few Birmingham derbies at both Villa Park and St Andrews, and I have seen riots, missiles thrown and a Police horse charging at fans.I no longer go to football matches for this reason.
I am a Villa fan,and I know both sides have a hooligan element, but the behaviour of the few really does spoil it for the majority.
I hope the book is thrown at the fan in question after today’s idiocy.I do however sympathise with BCFC fans at a time when facing a points deduction for FFP irregulaties, they will find themselves being investigated for something far worse.
If anyone has seen the incident being shown on the internet,it looks far worse from the reverse camera angle. If that fan had a weapon of some kind in his hand..........☹️

I am so fed up being a Bluenose.

I have just seen the moron. I see he is banned for life by the Blues. I hope that extends to every football game at all levels for the rest of his pitiful life. I am sure once the funny gas has work off and he realises that he has lost his job (of he had one), his freedom and any love off his family. It is called GBH and it has no place anywhere. Grealish is a Brummie for Pete's sake.

As for the Blues, already facing a massive points deduction. I would expect a massive fine and next season's game behind closed doors.

Knowledge of the CPS tells me a specimen charge may be laid before magistrates PROVIDED he has no previous hense a 'public order' offense. However an assault charge may be added subject to sufficient evidence matches up with a complaint to police. A realistic prospect of conviction must be present before a prosecution can proceed before a jury.

If a minor charge with no previous, the magistrates can do very little other than a monetary penalty with a banning order and/or probation with community service. The victim may ask for an assault charge to be considered and the CPS decides if a prosecution is in the public interest and the penalty will upon conviction be quite severe.

In either scenario a criminal record is certain unless an acquittal follows the hearing.

My apologies for my rant. I am fed up with idiots. We seem to be a country full of them at the moment.

Just watch James May's modelling programme on BBC 4. There is a good thing about the UK. Train and plane modelling!

Your observations are understandable Ian therefore cannot be considered a rant. The real losers are the supporters of BCFC should the FA impose sanctions. It may be open to the club, as a business, to pursue the individual for damages.against potential loss.

At the local magistrates court today the pitch invader pleaded guilty to assault and pitch encroachment. He was sentenced to 14 weeks imprisonment. He was also ordered to pay £350, made up of compensation to the player he assaulted, victim surcharge and prosecution costs.

The chairwoman of the bench said that in the interests of justice they had gone outside their guidelines in sentencing. Perhaps the guidlines need reviewing in such cases.

Good (y)

Lets hope he learns his lesson spending 14 weeks in prison, hopefully he wont do it again.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
