I do now know whether other posters feel the same about the conduct on loco planes prior to take-off. And i am referring mainly to safety announcement by cabin crew.

Firstly, let me say that i have no particular argument with Ryanair but it happened that it was that airline i used yesterday in a flight from FAO to Man. As was normal the cabin crew performed the normal safety instructions: seat belts, where is the nearest emergency exit, landing in water etc etc. They then announced that because of one passenger on the plane having an aggressive allergy to nuts, they would not be serving any nut products on the flight; they also asked passengers to refrain from eating nut products as well.

That is fine and i am happy to comply with the safety measures and the information regarding nuts. However, because of the general hubub in the cabin during these announcements with people trying to change seats etc, i am positive very few people even heard about the nut allergy situation. I even struggled to hear what they were saying.....

For me, i am becoming increasingly concerned about many passengers thinking their flight is just like taking a bus to the shops. They do not listen to announcements about safety and, should the worst happen, many would be a danger to other passengers.

I think airlines need to be firmer with safety announcements and should rather aggressively make sure that people are paying attention - even if they are like me, seasoned travellers who have flown regularly for about 40 years. You cannot put a price on safety and i don't want an inebriated idiot preventing me from exiting a plane quickly in an emergency.

I assume this situation is down to the reported seating issues? It's been quite a while since I've flown Ryanair.

One solution could be to not depart until cabin crew are satisfied that everyone has paid attention but on some routes that could seriously affect otp and flights later in the day.

It is frightening to me to see how many people just ignore the safety announcements (and others regarding allergies etc). People seem to be plugged into the phones (listening to music I would hope) or reading their paper / kindle / books / condom wrappers etc without any care for anyone else should the worst happen. Thankfully in all the miles I have travelled I have only had a couple of issues (1 x lightning strike & 1 x diversion) neither of which needed any emergency action by us passengers, but as a minimum I make sure that my wife (and now my daughters as well) count the headrests between our seats and the nearest 2 emergency exits (both in front and behind). If the worst comes to the worst I am making sure that my Family and I get out!

Never seen so many lies by our MPs before than I have over their excuse for backing Heathrow. But Chris Grayling at least did concede there could be loss of some routes from the regions - 11% losses at Manchester and Leeds.. BHX may be getting HS2, but it has just been given a slap in the face by Parliament. Wasted opportunity. Groan over....

London will always be the priority in major projects. BHX just have to live with it and run to it's potential.

Two massively expensive infrastructure developments at the same time. One in London and one mainly not.
Only so much money to go around?
London has cross rail and Bham has the possibility of opening up an already functioning 5 mile line to passenger services but only a possibility.Further north they do not apparently have enough electricity to power a decent rail service. Why else do they have to put up with what they get?
London (government.,media.business) do not see the need for HS2.This could be the start of the end.
Do not advance book your HS2 ticket to London to use the new and larger Heathrow because you will still be
using New St or Moor St.
Rant over

I dont mind the decision if it makes sense from an aviation perspective....london"s growth catered for in London rather than expecting travellers from the regions to travel or fly to LHR to catch a long haul flight. The inexcusable policy of promoting people from city regions of economic importance comparable to Milan, Munich and Barcelona to fly through London rather than the cities being served direct is just beyond belief. Bonkers.

I may be misinterpreting what has been said, but I think the idea is that people from MAN, EDI, BHX & GLA airports should be able to use those airports for long haul flights, and that it is the smaller regional airports that wouldn't be able to sustain long haul flights that 'need' the connections to Heathrow.

Certainly Flybe are looking at flights from LHR to the likes of Liverpool, Doncaster/Sheffield, Newquay, Isle of Man, Humberside, Jersey etc rather than Birmingham & Manchester. With the exception of Humberside, none of those airports have a link to a hub airport from a hub airline (easyJet fly LPL to AMS but that won't offer connections onto long haul flights).

Sorry guys and gals, this is totally random but i had to post and the dog is ok.

I hate snakes even more after watching this. Horrible animals

Where i live in Herefordshire i am well used to seeing RAF planes in the sky above my home and many a time i have been sat outside my barn with a glass of wine and marvelled at how low and how close some of these planes are. Indeed in one area of my farm i have a string of very mature Lombardy poplars which, i am convinced, the RAF use as a sight.

However, what i witnessed today while i was sat with a cup of coffee was truly amazing. First and from my right hand side six Eurofigher Typhoons flew over low in two chevron formations before, and from my left hand side, nine more Typhoons flew over in formation. And if that was not enough, the six Typhoons returned for another pass. A total of 15 Eurofighter Typhoons over my house..... I am used to seeing Typhoons, but never before in such numbers and in formation.

Does anyone have any information as to what was behind this. Was it part of normal RAF training or something more complex. A show strength for Trump????

We decided on a last minute weekend trip to Birmingham-On-Sea Weston-Super-Mare.

I've not been for a few years and the last time we were there it appeared very run down and rather unpleasant. It seems as if there is a steady stream of investment now going in with one or two interesting developments . It's still very rough around the edges with a long way left to go but things are definitely heading in the right direction. We really enjoyed it.

It was great sitting outside in the lovely weather with a bottle of wine watching some of the Bristol departures overhead and the Cardiff arrivals banking over the estuary :)

Always plenty of Brummie accents down there along with plenty of BCFC and AVFC football shirts.

I think Brean is much more saturated with Brummies than Weston. I haven't been for several years but the last time I was there it was like a suburb of Chelmsley Wood

BCFC is that Bristol City LOL?

As a young kid we would go caravaning to Burnham on Sea just down the road from Weston myself and my dad would go fishing on the site lake then later he would take my sister and mom to the beach leaving me alone and then return to carry on fishing would probably get arrested these days.

Ah. Brummie by the Sea. Went to brean on holiday once and bumped into my best mate. If Brum had a beach it would be Brean. Massive beach. Used to drive the car into it. There was always some wally in an Austin Allergic who would drive too far and get stuck. Great fun.

I had the 'pleasure' of going to school at Weston-super-Mare, the Boys' Grammar School at Uphill on the Brean side of the town, no longer in existence either as a school or even as a building.

The town of Weston has been growing at an immense pace in recent years and its population is approaching 90,000 (twice that of the 1950s population when I was at school) and may soon overtake Bath to become historic Somerset's most populous city/town. There are numerous industrial and retail estates that have been built near the motorway in recent years and the trend continues.

Weston-super-Mud boasts miles of golden beaches but in reality it's largely mud once the inner ring of sand is passed. The Bristol Channel which takes over from the Severn estuary near Weston has the second highest tidal range in the world after the Bay of Fundy in Canada. Hence you sometimes need binoculars to see the sea from Weston's sands.

People still become stuck in the wet sand in the Brean-Burnham area - to the fury of the authorities and despite warning notices everywhere - and it's still fairly common for cars to be driven out and subsequently abandoned as the tide comes in.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
