Simon Calder obviously has little to do this week for his regular Saturday Column in the i newspaper. This week he is suggested whether BHX should become Shakespeare International Airport and offers some choices for various airports around the UK.

He thinks Shakespeare International is a given, but I dont think so. If we are looking to attract the Yanks, is Shakespeare more relevant to them than Ozzy Osbourne?

My list would include Olly Murs Airport for Southend. David Beckham International for Stansted. Sir Alex Ferguson Airport for Manchester. Boris Johnson International for Heathrow, just to wind up old foppy head. Churchill for Gatwick as Chartwell can be viewed on approach.

Struggling with East Midlands. Newcastle could be Haddaway which works if you know the non literal meaning.
Bristol Airport is referred to in some quarters in the West Country (and perhaps beyond) as Trumpton International as it's looked upon by some as an airstrip in a field. Amongst the very elderly generation it's simply Lulsgate Airport to most because it's next to the vaguely Shakespearean-sounding Lulsgate Bottom (to complete the Shakespeare theme).

Perhaps Mr Calder should be renamed. Any ideas? Mr Ubiquitiously Annoying?

Besides Liverpool (John Lennon) are there any airports that use other names in their name (in the UK)? I see Doncaster Sheffield Airport has actually dropped (or all but removed) the Robin Hood name.

Besides cities that have more than one airport, is there any real need for them?

And even then if asked where they're flying from, does anyone really say "I'm flying from Liverpool John Lennon Airport" or just "I'm flying from Liverpool"?

The Americans like to name airports, Dulles and Reagan spring immediately to mind though I seriously doubt Trump will even get a Warship.

I think terminals within airports are best suitable for naming as at LAX and Bradley.

This could get silly...

Glasgow = Taggart

Edinburgh = Robbie Burns

Newcastle = Alan Shearer

Birmingham = Jasper Carrot

Norwich = Worzel Gummage

Does a Red Neck from Denver know where Shakespeare is? It is like naming one the Rome airports Julius Ceasar!

Bristol is Worzel Gummage isnt it TheLocalYokel :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

This could get silly? It is downright silly. Mr Calder divides us all but today's column was just downright nothing A nice respite from depressing aviation news though and it feature a nice pic of BHX.

East Midlands is difficult. Brian Clough? Or just Whera Am I International Airport?

The picture is from Twitter but I've lost where from, if anyone claims it I will add a credit :)

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
