Although there was a notorious public order incident involving a well-known cricketer in my neck of the woods last year. Of course, he was innocent of the charge as the jury found him not guilty.

He'd have to be a complete pillock to behave in prison in a way that prevented his early release. Then again judging from his actions yesterday........................

The defendant gambled at court and lost. In normal circumstances a guilty plea normally brings a discount on the sentence but as the chair of the bench indicated, going outwith the guidelines was meant to be in the public interest and a custodial sentence was handed down. Not usual for a first offense or a public order matter.

He will now suffer a greater sentence upon release in around a months time with his football interest severely curtailed and social isolation and job prospects in the bin.

And any Villa fans in our local jails will seek him out to avenge Mr. Grealish.

Rollo, as the man entered a guilty plea, he cannot appeal the conviction, and since the evidence is beyond doubt. His lawyer may also advise against an an appeal to the sentence as the magistrates indicated their reasoning in open court. The court of appeals only hear representations on points of Law and The Attorney General on matters related to sentencing I.e. unduly lenient or harsh.

The Law is an opaque business hence the need for legal representation in courts and the lengthy period of study of both statute law and relevant case law. The magistrates may be volunteers but the clerks are qualified lawyers there to advise the bench on legal matters that come before them.

Boeing 737 Max 8 is now banned from UK until further notice. Only 1 of them (Turkish) on the way to BHX. CAA say ban applies to such aircraft flying over UK airspace and those expecting a trip on one will be flown on another aircraft. I assume the Turkish Airlines (TC-LCD) will be grounded. FR24 now showing UK airspace devoid of Max 8s save for those on their way to the UK.

O.K JENNY JET thanks for putting me right on the legal niceties of the law just assumption on my part as my only experience with the law is a couple of speeding tickets over 40+ years, still think he should have got nearer 14 month's though.

Ive got a pal who is a Magistrate in Birmingham I'll have a chat with him when I next see him although he is pretty coy whan asked about his work probably quite correctly.

The Trump has spoken. All B737 Max 8 & 9 have to be grounded under NTSB advisory together with all aircraft 'of that line'. Clearly the Canadians have forced the issue.

Right decision from the FAA..

Back in the day DC10s were crashing and all were grounded. If the same plane crashes twice with similar patterns even if the investigations are not concluded a public safety first approach must be taken.

CNN were reporting yesterday were reporting that passengers in the US were refusing to board the planes. The FAA in, no doubt consultation with Boeing, had no choice - commerical or safety wise.

I do also feel like (this is an assumption and probably completely wrong) due to the now public association with the aircraft's safety there may be a subtle shuffle around of the routes they're operated on, or how the aircraft is advertised. Not sure it's just me in this opinion but if I was running an airline, I personally wouldn't be too keen on advertising the airline's operation of that aircraft any time soon. Any thoughts on that?

Take a look at the Twitter account of TUi and the questions being asked on there. Even Jet2 had numerous enquiries and they don't have the MAX.

I imagine that once the issue is sorted there will need to be some very clever pr to try and get things back on track.

It has that DC-10 itch about it, as IANBUTTY correctly mentioned. It seems to be a software and sensor issue and if I am correct, the Trump mentioned how flying requires a computer science degree rather than aeronautics skills.

The MAX name will enter the minds of travelers as that additional risk and the shareholders of Boeing likewise.

Why Birmingham just does not get the right stuff Number 7,945

In this week's Estates Gazette there is a supplement on UK Cities. This includes a facts page on each major UK city. Good news it quoted that Brum has the largest student population outside of London....

But, it quoted the population of Birmingham 1.1 million and the population of Manchester at .....eh.....2.8 million.

Bearing in mind this is the premier property investment journal, what chance do we have? Any investor will be drawn to 2.8 million than 1.1 million. To be fair they did the same for all other cities and just quoted the actual City Council population rather than the Greater XYZ population as they did for Manchester, and credit to Manchester for doing so.

Now having contributed to such info packs in the past it is the locals who help the EG put the data together. Surely someone at Brum CC should from now on tell the EG that the Greater Brum population is about 3.7 million.

Please, this is NOT to start a silly second city debate, but highlight that the city sells itself short time and time again.

Blimey I worked for one local authority for whom I stood on conference platform after conference platform expousing that economically it was more important than towns and cities 5 times as large. And it worked. Investment came flooding in.

Come on Brum sell yourself to the maximum. Maybe by calling the Metropolitan area Greater Brum it will help. Time Andy Street told the local Councillors to grow up and drop the West Midlands combined yawn yawn yawn to what it really is.

Apparently so, I believe Birmingham City Council signed off an agreement with unions.

On a personal note, I would like to thank the two binmen that helped me to my feet Wednesday here in Redditch, the wind blew me down after moving my bin and I struggled to get up again. We sometimes slag binmen off so praise where it is due, they may be forum members and my thanks are due to them!

I see the pleasures of being a Birmingham City fan continue at a pace, today they are up before the beak where a tribunal will judge what if any punishment we get for falling foul of the spending rules. The Football League are asking for a minimum 12 point deduction to take effect immediately and the tribunal is likely to find in there favor this week.
According to the figures Blues under the Zola and good old happy (I look after myself) Harry managed to increase the players wage bill by 75% from 22millon to 38million or to put it another way for every £100 income they spent £202 on wages, any logical explanation gratefully received?

Of course we await the consequences of the Villa game and just to cheer anyone up they are £58 million in debt and rising.
