Best to use the BBC's on line weather forecast for any plans. The one that shows rain/showers/cloudy/sunny intervals for every day. They never get it wrong:)
Yesterday in the morning we had an amber alert in Essex due to rain. By the afternoon we had a yellow alert....and in the evening we had no rain. In changeable weather forecasts are useless.

''Why weren't we warned?'' The usual banner headlines the media enjoy when districts become lakes or somebody does not get to work to open up for the workers etc., a warning or forecast is never a definitive statement of fact but a means to expect something or nothing dependant upon variables such as which substations get hit by lightning causing traffic management or ATC to fail, thus the Met Office issue notices as and when being specific is difficult.

On a personal note, I love rain, adore Thunderstorms partly because of spending time in places where such weather events are memorable for their impact, the Monsoons of Sri Lanka, the afternoon storms in Kenya but as Europeans can go home afterwards, the locals do the clearing up.

Groan. Architecturally bland. Come on Brum get something exciting built please. As dull as the swimming complex.

The problem they have is mainly timing. The short lead times wont allow anything too challenging so I would expect functional and simple designs, maybe there will be surprises but doubt it
The games team have already expressed publically that things are tight and some building hasnt started yet

I just hope that the stadium is retained exclusively for Athletics and not gifted or leased to an undeserving soccer club as with Manchester City or West Ham United. I can already sense the smell of Coventry City doing a Wimbledon aka MK Dons in this scenario.

Fine but temporary open air seats? I liked the flag lined roof of the original design. Architectural excellence does not necessarily mean a longer construction period (it took less time to build the masterful new Istanbul airport terminal than the dull Terminal 5 at Heathrow.). The athletes village looks like a north London hosting estate.

Unlikely. The stadium is already the national centre for UK Athletics and will remain so. Hopefully they will take a leaf out of British Cycling at Manchester and create a centre of excellence at Perry Bar. That will really ensure its longevity. Plus, and sadly, by the looks of thinks they will strip out the temporary seating and it will revert pretty much what it currently is. To be honest, there is no demand for much more than that. Even the Diamond league meets struggle to get above 15,000 attendances. Most are in near empty stadium.

Something completely different.... My wife is flying to Faro in the morning and, while her flight is not until late afternoon, she has told me she wants to get from our home in Herefordshire to Birmingham early.

Interested that she wants to get there early i said i did not think she was that interested in airports and planes. Her reply was that she wanted to get into Brum early so that she could spend some time in the Kitty Cafe at Grand Central!!!!

Is this developing into a bit of a tourist attraction?
Sounds to me like an intention to spend a few more hours in duty free!:unsure:

England vs Argentina just about to kick off, always a tasty one.

I have to apologise but is this forum infected? I believe I posted a reply which was 'liked' but has since vanished. I have also needed to edit my posts due to some oddities of grammar. I wonder if recent structural changes may have destabilized things? Am I alone with these problens or is my illness beginning to bite?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
