I'm meant to be flying BA to Perth via Singapore at Easter. What do you guys think? I'm thinking no chance as either Singapore or Australia will ban the UK soon...but just wondered what your opinions were.

What kind of ticket do you have?

I'd suggest taking a look at this page:

With the pace things have been going in the past week - just a week ago the only quarantines were in China and the small towns in Northern Italy - I really wouldn't be surprised if most countries are in lockdown/closed borders in the next 10 days to 2 weeks.

I think that for the next two months there will be very little movement worldwide. Easter is less than a month away and this virus is around for the next nine months or so. Plus getting the aviation industry up and running again will take some doing.

I really hope I am completely wrong, and you can enjoy your holidays. Feel for you.

The wife booked the tickets a while back and I haven't looked. If flights are grounded then i would get the money back. If not, then I suppose it is business as usual. Its just that I don't think anything usual will occur!

Looks like Australia is making everyone self-isolate for 14 days. I don't even know how to prove this. I'm a tourist so it's not like I can blag my way in!

I've seen a number of countries are now doing this - I wonder how they plan on enforcing it?

In case anybody was wondering I have managed to get in contact with JennyJet to make sure that she is okay. Given her circumstances she is as well as can be and assures me that her essentials are getting through to her as scheduled.

She is having issues accessing the forum which will hopefully be resolved soon.

I'm sure that we all wish her the best and look forward to having her back soon.

Indeed JJ,

Take good care.

I thought all flights to and from US to UK had stopped?

Flight Radar this morning, Heathrow was chock full of arrivals and departures to USA.

Don't think any country has actually banned the flights themselves. They bans are on certain people coming into the country.

In the case of the USA, American citizens can still fly to the USA and British passengers in the USA will need to be able to get back here. Flights will continue for a few weeks until everyone is back where they want to be. Even then many flights will still be flying to move cargo around - many airlines are actually looking at using their passenger aircraft to carry cargo.

Whilst we have heard stories of real human kindness during these difficult times there is unfortunately a minority that go the other way.

Outrageous is not the word :rage:

I wish I could unsee that Ray, the thought of someone profiteering/price gouging at the expense of the needy in a time of woe is morally disgusting. And to think that a few pennies in the bank at the expense of a child getting the medicine they need especially as it's coming from a pharmacist, the very people they rely on for help at this turbulent time makes my blood boil. I hope when the time comes an industry ombudsman can hand the perpetrator the stiffest penalty.
To be positive though, it looks as though most people in my area are sticking together and acting like rational human beings and my overall opinion of the current situation is a positive one.
Stay healthy everyone....

Its disgusting to see prices shoot up like this. There are probably children suffering from illness and lower wage families are sadly put at a disadvantage as they may not be able to afford it.
The selfish people also making people by selling loads of toilet rolls on Ebay for high profits is also insane.

Having a positive attitude is very important, for your mental health and possibly for your physical health too.

Trying to understand why toilet roll is particularly desirable and not kitchen roll. Am I that dense?

I don't think you are at all. We are reasonably well stocked with toilet rolls in our house for the moment but who knows if they will continue to be treated like tulip bulbs in the 17th Century Dutch Tulip Bulb Bubble in the coming months? My wife bought some extra kitchen rolls last week when they were readily available in a local shop and said they could always be cut in two to make a near perfect substitute for a toilet roll.

It's disgraceful and this particular instance met with quite a backlash on social media.

On the other hand there are some great things happening with people really pulling together. I've heard of pubs and cafes laying on free breakfast clubs for school children, a community centre not far from where I live is providing lunches for kids who usually have free school meals, there's even fitness instructors starting children's P.E. lessons via social media.

Real and genuine human kindness (y)

I hope that you have some nappy sacks at the ready as there have been reported increases of blocked sewers as people have turned to kitchen roll :)

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
