Ray Finkle said:A couple of tweaks for the summer, Tuesday mornings BOD has been replaced with a charter BHX-JSI-KVA-BHX and Sunday now sees GIB moving to the afternoon and PVK operating in the morning, this was operated by Flybe last year so it's good to see MON take it on rather than drop it.
It still looks to be 7x A321's and 2x A320's with the only gaps appearing on Sat mornings and Tue and Wed afternoons.
There was hope of this becoming a 2 hr flight but that is no longer possible...
A300-600R G-OJMR final flight will be on Sun 13 Apr departing LGW at 14:40, additional details:
Updated Fri 11 Apr:
The proposed extension that we evaluated was to accommodate a possible landing at another airfield en-route to Birmingham, and a decision was taken against this after a number of concerns from passengers already booked on the flight who had booked onward connections (either by rail or air) based on a 1hr flight. The reason for notification of a 2hr flight was to ensure that no passengers booked themselves on to tight connections that they may have ended up missing. It is likely that the flight will end up being a little over an hour.
Following a significant amount of discussion with Manchester Airport, the flight will now operate with a low level fly past of Manchester Airport (MAN), weather permitting. The aircraft is not permitted to descend below 1,000ft, so any low cloud in the area, or other difficult weather conditions will mean that the flypast is cancelled.
If you have friends or family in the Manchester area that would be interested in viewing the fly past, the aircraft is expected to arrive at Manchester at between 3.15pm and 3.30pm local time.
Once the fly past is completed, weather permitting, the aircraft will proceed directly to Birmingham for landing. The aircraft will not land at Manchester.
Monarch Launch Two New Ski Routes From Birmingham Airport
Monarch, the leading scheduled airline to leisure destinations, announces two new routes from Birmingham Airport - to Salzburg and Turin - as part of its winter ski programme for 2014/15. Flights will commence on the 13th December 2014 and are on sale from 10th June 2014. To book visit http://www.monarch.co.uk
Salzburg sits on the border between Austria and Germany and is the capital city of the province which bears its name. Salzburg’s excellent position on the motorway network makes it a great stop-off for skiers and snowboarders alike, as it has an abundance of ski resorts within easy reach.
Within the city there are plenty of activities and cultural pursuits on offer; it is Mozart’s birthplace and the backdrop to many scenes from the Sound of Music. As the home of the carol ‘Silent Night’, Salzburg is also ideal for Christmas Market trips. Over Christmas, the city has a festive atmosphere filled with the scent of cinnamon, baked apples and gingerbread.
Turin is the capital of Italy's Piedmont region, in the far north-west of the country. It too is close to the Alps, making it another excellent starting-point for skiing holidays. This cosmopolitan city is a major industrial centre, perhaps most famous as the home of the car manufacturer Fiat. The City is also historically and architecturally fascinating with elegant arcaded streets and dotted with noble equestrian statues of Savoy princes.
Andrew Swaffield, Managing Director of Monarch Airlines comments:
“We are delighted to expand our ski programme from Birmingham airport to Salzburg and Turin.
“Salzburg is our first Austrian destination from Birmingham and we are pleased to announce it as one of our new ski routes for the upcoming 2014/15 ski season. Turin is Italy’s gateway to the Alps and now our fifth route flying to Italy.
“We are pleased to be offering all skiers across the UK the opportunity to fly to the popular ski destinations across Europe. Monarch now offers routes to five European airports of interest to skiers throughout the winter from Birmingham, giving our customers variety and the perfect gateway for their winter breaks.”
William Pearson, Birmingham Airport’s Aviation Development Director, added:
“The decision by Monarch to add Salzburg and Turin to their ski programme at Birmingham is great news for those who are planning on hitting the slopes this winter.
“We’re confident the introduction of these new routes will prove to be tremendously popular not only with skiers, but also with those who are keen to explore these great cities in more detail, both rich in culture and famous for their breathtaking architecture.”
