Re: New Control Tower

No worries tomleeds. As it is every 15 mins and only a very small section of airport shown, you won't see everything. It is quite good for some things though, because if you go to 8am today you should see the all orange easyjet, and at half 9/9.45 you should see the man city Etihad plane

Re: New Control Tower

It's still good to see movements from part of T1 and T2. It's perfect because I also saw the Boeing 747 Virgin Atlantic aircraft coming out of Air Livery yesterday, as it seems to save all images effective of December 1st.

I must recommend the Time Lapse feature.... MAN in super fast motion....

[textarea]MAG release video to promote Manchester Airport City

Manchester Airports Group (MAG) is showcasing its plans for the development of a £650 million ‘Airport City’ at Manchester Airport in a new video, How Do reports. The video is designed to explain the thinking behind the decision by MAG to transform Manchester Airport from a transport hub into an international business destination in its own right.

Airport City, a 150-acre regeneration scheme, aims to deliver over four million square feet of new business premises over the next 15 years, with a key objective to attract international companies that would probably not have considered locating in the region. The video can me viewed here:

[video]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dhg5RVBidLk[/video]

MAG chief executive Charlie Cornish said: ‘Airport City is a once in a lifetime opportunity to create an international business destination linked to the global connectivity of the North’s major international airport and driven by the region’s global offer in terms of academic, scientific and technological credentials, supported by its communications and transport infrastructure.'

‘Airport City is one of the most important projects for the economy of the UK and will elevate Manchester on an international scale enabling it to compete with other European airport cities like Amsterdam, Barcelona and Frankfurt.’

[textarea]Budget could benefit Manchester Airport, says aviation expert

Chancellor George Osborne has announced a deal with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) to pilot a new scheme to unlock £1.2 billion of infrastructure investment across the city region.

The scheme is aimed at unlocking stalled infrastructure projects and devolving more powers from central Government to Greater Manchester, the Chancellor said in his speech. The infrastructure provided under the scheme is likely to give Manchester Airport a real boost, an expert said.[/textarea]

The linked report mentions similar funding schemes for several other large English cities though not necessarily having the same potential impact on their airports.

The new Air Traffic Control tower

No delays: New Manchester airport tower to beat building firm ‘crisis’

Bury-based electrical engineers Brown & Company went into administration this week – with the loss of 15 jobs

Airport bosses say the new air traffic control tower will be completed on time despite the setback
Manchester Airport’s new £16m air traffic control tower will NOT be delayed – despite a company involved in building it going into administration.

Bury-based electrical engineers Brown & Company went into administration this week – with the loss of 15 jobs.

The firm had been sub-contracted by Morgan Sindall Construction to provide the mechanical and electrical services at the control tower.

But Brown & Company’s work is now being reviewed by the administrators – meaning their future involvement at the airport is uncertain.

Airport chiefs insisted that it remains business as usual – and the tower is still set to open this spring. A spokesman said: “The company was a sub-contractor of the main contractor Morgan Sindall. There is no change to the scheduled operational opening, which is planned for later this year.”

[textarea]Residents concerns over Manchester Airport's 9,000 space car park plan

The car park is earmarked for Styal Road, Ringway Road And Shadowmoss Road area which is to the north east of Manchester Airport.

The 70 acre (28.5 hectare) car park site is about the size of 70 football pitches

Residents opposed to Manchester Airport's plan to turn a nearby field into a 9,000 space car park are meeting to discuss their concerns.

The group from Moss Nook, Wythenshawe, want the site to remain as farmland and fear airport passengers will park on residential roads to dodge charges.

Manchester City Council planning officers have recommended the surface car park is approved by councillors.

Manchester Airport is working with residents to "address any concerns".

The 70 acre (28.5 hectare) site - which is about the size of 70 football pitches - is not greenbelt land. The fields are leased for grazing.

Are there any plans to replace MAN's ageing piers? If so how could they go about doing it? I should imagine the main priority would be to replace the C pier first and incorporate an A380 capable gate for when the B pier is out of action - if this is indeed possible size wise? And would there be enough remote stands if the pier was out of action?

The construction of BHX's new pier was relatively straight-forward but due to Terminal 1's layout and MANs space restrictions I'd guess such a project wouldn't be as easy. I would be interested to know how the old piers could be replaced by causing the minimal amount of disruption.

The 2 piers at T1 are pretty horrible.

They have plans to replace Pier B (the one with the A380 gate) and add 2 more 380 capable gates.

They also plan to knock down the old visual control tower and offices, merge T1 and T3, with a bigger search area, bigger check in area and then the flexibility to for either terminals to move around (Ryanair want more space for based aircraft).

There are also plans to refurbish pier C, knock down the 'satellite' to allow more movements to T2 and then extend the pier with the '50's' gates at T3 for more low cost gates.

Apparently the financing for all of this in place, they are just formulating the plans to see how they will do it with the minimal of disruption.

[textarea]Airport City: The UK’s ‘most significant development project since the Olympics’

With five million sq ft of new highly-connected business space planned over the next ten years, Airport City is introducing a new concept to the UK.

Taking Manchester Airport beyond its traditional use as a regional transport hub and transforming it into an international business destination in its own right, it will provide a major regeneration opportunity for the surrounding Wythenshawe area and help to further boost Manchester’s attractiveness as a major European Business City.

Had the (dis)pleasure of driving around the airport roads yesterday, and my my, what a lot of construction there is going on!

Stuck in traffic for 25 minutes near Shadowmoss road with the new metrolink construction. On top of this, there is the new 9000 space car park being built under the final approach, which will enable the long stay car parks to be moved from the airport city site.

The work on the new cargo and logistics hub is now underway near the M56, with a huge amount of earthworks being dug, and the scale of the site is huge, and has to be seen up close to appreciate its size.

They are also planning to move the AVP to near the fire station on Runway 2 (23L), and use the AVP for more hangars, particularly Air Livery who want 2 widebodied bays with 1 A380 capable bay.

All this and the proposed total rebuild of T1/T3 means that in about 10 years time, Manchester airport could look completely different from how it is now. There are certainly interesting times ahead!

The airport had tweeted that an announcement will be made tomorrow regarding 'modernising Manchester airport, this is probally the long awaited rebuild of the terminals and extensions .

It is surprising how quickly the terminals have become dated, especially Terminal 2. I remember when the terminal was opened and I remember thinking how clean and lush it all looked. Now it looks tired and dilapidated and well in need for a refurbishment. I'm looking forward to seeing what the airport plans to do!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
