Could be seeing A350s at BHX in the future?

Middle Eastern carrier Emirates appears to have revised its Airbus long-haul order, committing to 50 Airbus A350s – up from the previous 30 – but not mentioning the earlier A330neo agreement...Emirates had tentatively opted for 30 A350-900s and 40 A330-900s earlier this year in a rejig of its long-haul strategy as Airbus cancelled its A380 programme, for which Emirates had been the primary customer. But the revision unveiled at the Dubai air show makes no mention of the 40 A330neos. Emirates says the new purchase deal "replaces" its previous declaration of intent.

I'm surprised it's the 900 version. I'd have expected the 1000 version if they were going to use them to replace the A380

Looks like they have also cut their 787-10 order?

That quietly happened quite a while ago - when the previous LOI for the A330NEO & A350 originally became public.

I think the A350-900 is more for fleet expansion and possible replacing some 777 aircraft. Emirates still have some A380's yet to be delivered which will replace some of the older A380's. After that they have 115 B777-9 aircraft on order which would do a better job of replacing the A380.

Emirates still haven't made up their minds about what will replace their large fleet of A380's:

DUBAI: Too early for talk on A380 succession – Airbus

I suspect they're waiting to see if Boeing offers a further stretch to the 777-9, or if Airbus stretch the A350-1000.

You would think that if Emirates want super sized jumbo's and something can be made that is fuel efficient and can get a wider audience than the A380 has it will get built in the next 20 years or so. Could a two engine 500 seat plane be built I guess is the question.

I would think a carbon fibre A380 sized aircraft could work with two 777x size engines.

I think the demand for such an aircraft would depend on what happens with aviation vs climate change in the next few years.

If airports are allowed to expand, I doubt there'll be much need for one. If on the other hand airports continue to be constrained then yes there could be demand for such an aircraft.

Looks like Emirates is going for the 787 again after all, now going for the -9 variant rather than the -10.

Emirates to take 30 787-9s and trims 777X deal

I was thinking when I saw about the A350 order (and A330 cut) it seemed odd for them not to have a more 'modest' size plane like the 787 (either -8 or -9) to hit markets which wouldn't work with the larger a/c.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
