A lot of that will be Cypriot university students going home for Christmas. It's great that we've now got a little competition to Larnaca in Winter as before it was just Monarch.

I remember before Monarch's W16/17 BHX-LCA schedule was unveiled there were rumours it would be cancelled, and there was quite a panic! Now look. (y)(y)

It will be interesting to see if Blue Air keep LCA year round.

Monarch have 3 flights a week for more weeks this winter than I remember before although the schedules were probably set before the competition was announced.
Flight times do vary but generally Monarch give you more time in Cyprus with earlier arrival and later departure at Larnaca than Blue Air or Cobalt.
Will be interesting to see if Jet2 add Larnaca to Pafos as Jet2 holidays have a presence in Protaras hotels.

We finally see a press release :)

Cobalt Air Launch New Larnaca Service From Birmingham Airport

Cobalt Air, the Cypriot airline, is launching a twice weekly service to Larnaca from Birmingham Airport.

This new partner airline of Birmingham Airport will depart for Larnaca twice a week adding more frequencies from Birmingham.

Using Airbus aircraft, the flights will leave Birmingham on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 1705 arriving in to Larnaca at 2350 hours. The flights will arrive back into Birmingham at 1605 having left Larnaca at 1245 hours.

Commenting on this, Tom Screen, Head of Aviation, Birmingham Airport said: “We are delighted that we have the opportunity to give passengers even more choice to visit Larnaca from their local airport. Cobalt Air is a new international airline that has pricing similar to low cost but offers a high end in-flight service.”

Philokypros Roussounides, Director of Corporate Affairs from Cobalt Air said: “It is great news that we are expanding in the UK with a new service out of Birmingham. Larnaca is a beautiful destination and we are pleased to be able to welcome passengers onboard.”

Larnaca, located on the southernmost coast of Cyprus, has a fantastic sunny climate all year round. Its beautiful town is home to the 9th-century Church of Saint Lazarus, and boasts fabulous sandy beaches and a palm fringed town behind.

Flights start from £38.00 excluding baggage, one way and can be booked on www.cobalt.aero

I haven't yet seen it 'in the flesh' yet it has been going to MAN for half a year or more - for a 'startup' airline it certainly has a great livery!

This weekend is earmarked for a trip to MAN purely for CO!

Yes, I like the livery too. But much preferred seeing the Cyprus Airways A310's - the amount of cargo that was unloaded from those was quite astonishing!
I recall watching a Cyprus Airways A310 landing on Runway 15. It touched down by the intersection with (the old) 06-24. My thought's, were 'this is going to end badly'. Along with reverse thrust, the pilot used 'aero braking', keeping the nose high therefore using the underside of the wing as an airbrake. The aircraft came to taxiing speed easily by the end of the runway.

Bump

Inaugural flight today. It's nice forgetting the start date of a new route and then have it stare you in the face when you go on FR24 to look at the BHX arrivals board :)

Will be interesting to see how reliable they are. They were very poor initially but I think they are better now.
Their two A319 aircraft will both be heading to the UK today. The other is going to Stansted.

Actually, one A319 is currently en route to Athens from Larnaca and the other to Stansted from Larnaca. Which means that LCA-BHX must be on an A320 today! If anyone wants to check:

LCA-ATH, Flight CO712, AC 5B-DCU (A319)
LCA-STN, Flight CO622, AC 5B-DCV (A319)

Which must mean BHX will be 5B-DCR (A320) for flight CO614.

(CO have 2 x A319 and 1 x A320).

Being bumped up to an A320 from an A319 on the inaugural flight can only be a good thing, right?!

Flight radar did show an A319 for BHX early this morning but it must have changed. Good to have the larger plane particularly if the seats were filled.

A good friend of mine reps for Cobalt on the ground @BHX and tells me loads are great considering the fact flights started in Winter one issue is the huge amount of excess baggage carried by the passengers, seems like low prices attract the Cypriot VFR community.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
