Wales v France: France v Wales Six Nations matches

To me it seems it was the quietest French airlift certainly since 2006.
Is there usually more activity when France visit Wales or vice versa? Was 2006 quieter for a particular reason?

2006 was the first year I started at Cardiff Airport so paid more of an interest.

this year not even a single widebodied movement for French rugby fans where even two years ago saw XL Airways A330 and a Corsair A330. The last two home fixtures not even seen the faithful Air France widebodied aircraft.

Back then you used to have a decent Six Nations movements.

Wales v Ireland several Aer Lingus mixed fleet including several widebodied flights. Echo & BAMC used to be used

Ireland V Wales several charter flights including Monarch etc once again mixture of narrow bodied/widebodied. Stobart Air used to also have a lot of their fleet operating charters.

Wales v France Also extremely busy with aircraft filling Echo overnighting and BAMC also being used.

Scotland v Wales

bmibaby shuttles, bmi Mainline shuttles, Monarch shuttles.

Since I've been doing this the last couple of years the inbound French flights have definitely been busier than when the Welsh play away. It does seem quieter this year than last time and of course this year's Irish flights weren't helped by Ryanair operating them from Bristol.
Will be interesting to see if they do the same next year.

Thanks for that. Over the years I'd gained the impression that Wales v France was busier than France v Wales but that's just me looking in from afar so to speak.

The busiest ones from Cardiff with Wales fans is usually the away Italy game and the away Dublin game.

Interestingly, the 2016 Wales vs France match played in Cardiff saw a small inbound airlift of only around 3,000 seats (17x arrivals) - with a visiting AFR B773 included.

The 2018 Wales vs France match played in Cardiff saw a much larger inbound airlift of around 6,000 seats (34x arrivals) - with a visiting CRL A333.
2018 also saw 3x BEE E195 arrivals on the Friday from CDG and KLM upgraded one of their flights to a B737.

This years inbound airlift saw no widebodies and around 4,000 seats (22x arrivals not including the team flight).
BEE operated 1x CDG flight on the Friday on the DH8D.

Looks like there'll be a few charters for the rugby and some from France and some football related maybe includes a BA on the 15th.
12/3/20
Arrivals
16.15 EZE9691 Eastern Airways from Edinburgh.
13/3/20
12.45 EZE9692 Eastern Airways from Edinburgh
14.40 C3314 Trade Air from Toulouse
14/3/20
15.05 EZE9731 Eastern Airways from LeedsBradford

Departures
15/3/20
C3315 Trade Air 11.00 to Toulouse
BA7036 British Airways 12.00 to Edinburgh
C3316 Trade Air 16.00 to Grenoble
EZE9732 Eastern Airways 16.30 to LeedsBradford

Also a Trade air arrival at 8.55am on 13th C3313 from Grenoble. Nice to see some activity for the weekend, after such a sad week. Perhaps the advert for Eastern cabin crew may lead to something more for the airport. It is such a shame for the airport staff who have worked so hard to bring more routes and passenger numbers to the airport.

I presume the Eastern from/to LBA is bringing Leeds United for their Sunday lunchtime Championship match against Cardiff City. What are the Toulouse and Grenoble flights for?

I don't know about the French flights. I'd say rugby related but it's Wales v Scotland and no European matches either.

I looked to see if there was anything that might fit. No Pro-14 this weekend and no football that would involve France or French teams.

Only thing I can think of is that it's for the rugby. Wales v Scotland.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
