Oh dear.

Ordinarily I wouldn't be too concerned, a couple of weekly E190 flights aren't going to do too much damage but the airport made rather a big deal out of BA returning, yet in true BHX style they're gone again in the blink of an eye. Should be a good one for the media to get hold of.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is the fact that they lasted two seasons at BHX rather than the usual one.

Just when are things going to change :(

When we get an airline called EASYJET :smug:

THATS WHEN

THATS WHEN
Even with easyJet there are cons. easyJet is now so big at Bristol that there is little doubt it is frightening off other ailrines. If easyJet pulled out of BRS or cut back drastically the airport would be up S*** Creek without any sort of paddle. Next summer they are anticipating handling 5.2 million of BRS's anticipated 9 million passengers.

Make of it what you will.

A BA spokesman said that the airline is not resuming its flight programme at BRS and BHX next summer, "due to the complexity and cost of operating from airports where we have no crew bases".

He went on to say, "This doesn’t mean we are withdrawing from these airports permanently. We will continue to review alternative ways of operating from both Bristol and Birmingham airports in the future.”

MAN has a LCY positioning flight which may well be used to ferry crews and STN is less than an hour up the M11. Google Maps shows LCY to BHX as 2 hr 20 min by road and that is in favourable traffic conditions.

To make Birmingham a success it looks to be permanent based aircraft or nothing. There is plenty of potential for a base but my bet is with nothing :)

They could do the same as MAN and fly the aircraft in from LCY to operate a BHX schedule?

They actually sell seats on the LCY/MAN sector and are doing very well, so even the positioning flight makes money

I do wonder if they'll now focus their weekend ops on MAN and maybe even STN and EDI as well.

I didn`t say it made a profit but what I did say was it it is making money which it wouldn`t do if it was empty and also remember it isn`t sold as a low cost flight.

It does cost money to run the service onboard though, costs not incurred if they chose just to run it as a no revenue positioning flight.

Lowest basic price one way MAN-LCY is £50 of which £27 is taxes and airport charges. Base fare is £22. How much more low cost do you think it could be?

We can always talk lowest base fare but not everybody pays that do they and anything over zero is a plus because cabin crew
, fuel cost etc will already be there because they are positioning

Last time they dropped by in 2017 (to Florence, Ibiza, Malaga & Palma), we had 1x weekly flight per destination, i.e. 4x weekly BACF flights.
Now, we just have 1x new route, to Belfast-City, but with 16x weekly BACF flights in total, so four times as many seats as before (2x daily flights Mon, Tue, Wed, Sat, Sun, 3x daily Thu, Fri).

Very exciting IMO! I, for one, look forward to seeing the flag returning to BHX :shamefullyembarrassed:

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
