Perhaps if/when they announce intentions for Cityflyer fleet, the picture will become clearer.

BA seem to have gone quiet about MAX8 at the moment. Another legacy of Walsh/Cruz that's under scrutiny....

I am hoping we get a Heathrow flight link as well from British Airways same as Manchester - demand is high and some flights to USA and Canada as well as Eastern Europe - this is great news British Airways in the second city and Common Wealth Games 2022 Birmingham
never going to happen, a flight from BHX-LHR and back, makes no commercial sense at all, especially when HS2 is up and running, and environmentally it has no chance!!

In 2020, they had plans to get rid of all E170, except one.

Also had plans to increase E190s to 30, but it's now anticipated only 2 will arrive, taking total to 24.

The source, londonairtravel.com, has updated some of the BA fleet information, but there's nothing more recent for Cityflyer.

The E170s have all gone, current fleet is 24 E190s, although a few are still stored! - not certain if they have more second hand E190s on order.

I was glad I flown on the 170 last year about a month later BA got rid & the E190 are good I've already flown on them 3 times this year & another 4 times later this year... Yep BHX to LHR would make sense in the 1960s but not in 2022. Besides this will last until March 2022. Not sure what is happening but I suspect will go back to Aer Lingus mainline or Emerlad which ever one is 1st. But maybe BA might look at BHX again if successful with BHD & (me spit balling) add more domestic routes to GLA, EDI or Newqaury or summer holidays to Europe, (Someone please add Berlin) better then the last one was hopefully. Even with TUI, Jet2 & Ryanair holidays is Europe in 2022 will grow so maybe BA will take advantage. Leaning more out of there London Bubble kind of what they done with Southampton. What ever happens I am just glad BA are back at BHX & not missing my opportunit to fly with them out of my local.

I can see the logic in having a "feeder" service LHR-BHX but other contributors are right, it's not economically viable anymore. If you're towing a suitcase then it's a trek to Euston, even on Heathrow Express. Getting out to Reading the other option, RailAir bus.

Oh, those were the days! British Midland SH360 or ATP on LHR, Brymon Twin Otter on LGW.

Assuming passenger numbers on the route hold up, there would be certain factors that favour BA staying on.

First of all they may not be able to build back at LCY as quickly as they would like, which depends on whether business traffic will be reduced in the long term.

The fact that they switched over from EI mainline indicates that they think higher frequencies with smaller aircraft makes better business sense, but it has also been pointed out on another forum that IAG would no longer have all the revenue if it outsources the route to Emerald. I could understand IAG would want to outsource the BHD operations if they end up losing money but not if they turn a profit.

BIRMINGHAM - BELFAST CAPACITY EXPANDED AS BRITISH AIRWAYS TAIL FIN ARRIVES BACK IN THE MIDLANDS

Birmingham Airport has welcomed back the British Airways tail fin as BA CityFlyer launches services to Belfast City. The schedule provides ten flights a week up to the new year, increasing to 16 weekly in early January. This offers customers even greater choice to Northern Ireland from the Midlands with this iconic brand.

Welcoming passengers on the new services this morning, Birmingham Airport’s Aviation Director, Tom Screen, said: “It was great to see a British Airways aircraft land on our runway again after three years absence. Domestic connectivity facilitated by regional airports can have a range of economic and social benefits, which are more important now than ever as the country recovers from the impact of the pandemic. Belfast is currently our busiest route so we are incredibly pleased that BA CityFlyer will be providing additional capacity and regular flights for our region’s business and leisure travellers.”

Flights are operated using an Embraer 190 with capacity of 98 seats, and flights are available at britishairways.com

Tom Stoddart, Managing Director of BA CityFlyer which operates the route, said: "This year has shown how much customers want to stay connected with the rest of the UK. We’re responding by launching a new route from Belfast City Airport to Birmingham this winter.”

And as quick as they come, they go once again.

Bye Bye BA, None of us take you seriously anyway. And why the management at BHX celebrate, it makes them all look rather silly imho.

Hi there all, so is that confirmed that ba, not now coming at all...AndyC
They’ve already operated a few flights to BHX.

Considering Emerald have also denied rumours and the article by CH aviation about their start up plans. So it’s not known what their intentions are for now. So for now I still see BA doing the Belfast flights along with the other UK-Belfast airports they do.

Emeralds schedule for BHX if it remains at 23x flights per week, leaves plenty of scope for BA to continue. Flybe operated up to 5 rotations on weekdays in the past, less so weekends. Obviously much depends on Covid being a reduced factor next Summer.

BACF aren't going to compete with Emerald, especially if they will actually need the aircraft and crew to go back to serve the profitable LCY routes as normal.

Emerald are denying the start up plans so who knows what their frequency’s and routes will be until they say.

Id just be appreciating the fact that there is an airline currently doing Belfast city.

Hi there all, after looking at emerald airlines, they only have 1 atr aircraft in their fleet altogether, yet ba city flyer have 24 aircraft in their fleet, so I don't think that this will bother ba competing against 1 aircraft...AndyC

Emerald are to operate as an a Aer Lingus franchise on a done deal both BA and Aer Lingus are part of the IAG group no way will they compete with each other they will have their hands full with EasyJet from BHX who are running up to five daily to Belfast.

Im sure BA are a stop gap until Emerald come on line in my view whenever that maybe.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
