The other airline is an interesting one, lots of competition for the flight, and thus far, it's too close to call (it's not the airline I thought of initially, but, it is still a good un).

Anyway, let's not worry about that one just yet, these board will be worn out otherwise.

Best of British to 'em, whoever they may be!
I won't be heading for Trumpsville myself anytime soon but I might nip over to YYZ next summer!

Pain over. I can focus on Le Tour again.

Good luck to them. It is a massive announcement and they deserve everyone's full support. Exciting times and when it works it will send out the strongest message to others the Birmingham is the place to invest with confidence.

This is exactly the pick-me up BHX needs. What needs to happen for Primera is to get busy with BHX and go all over the place to showcase these routes. If there are any events in the area, throw some money sponsoring them and putting banners up broadcasting the routes. Even stuff like sponsoring local weather reports. They'd have to do this anyway being a very unknown brand over here compared to United.

It seems few people are either disappointed or in a shock. This could be a game changer for BHX :).

Totally agree.

If this is done properly and it gets full support from the region it could potentially be just the start. I may be going off into dream land but as well as A321's they also have MAX 9's on order. I see no reason why some destinations in Scandinavia couldn't follow with maybe a small hub operation being built up. I'm getting ahead of myself though.

First of all these routes need to work. We have an airline willing to put two brand new aircraft into a brand new airport operating not one but three long haul routes. That is a huge commitment.

There was some excitement about the potential of Norwegian 737's to Stewart Airport or the possibility of JetBlue A321's in the future so I hope that this gets the same support.

Hopefully there will be more detail in the announcement which will make people feel better :)

Well any new route is to be welcomed and it's great to see some long haul expansion but I think this is going to be one tough ask. BHX has lost both American Airlines and United Airlines, two massive worldwide known brands and now we are expected to pin our hopes on a little heard of Scandinavian carrier? I'll be honest, I've never heard of them, knew nothing about them and I like to think I've got a decent amount of aviation knowledge. Will there be some kind of interlink arrangement with someone on the American side? I can't see this working on point to point alone.

I'm sorry to sound negative but I stand by my initial gut feeling - we are talking about an small, little known Scandinavian carrier launching long haul from a foreign country, specifically from a regional airport into a market with a poor success rate. And before anyone starts this is nothing about being snobby, just realistic. There will need to be some serious advertising to attract even the low yielding passengers and I really don't see this attracting business traffic. Timings aren't the best either.

Time will tell; I just wish it was a more well known carrier. I know beggars can't be choosers but this just reminds me of the Beijing Capital fiasco all over again, a well known carrier drops the service and a random, obscure replacement is rustled up.

Great destinations, but I'm a completely underwhelmed by provider. I wish them all the luck in the world because I fear they are going to need it.

  • Well said Ray. Whoever this airline is think of the investment they are making in not only a new airport, but also a new transcontinental market. This is HUGE.

Now that we have that one sussed, the route east? Please please please let it be to the rising sun. but I will settle for anything that opens up new markets.

Flymetothemoon,

I would confidently say that everyone on these boards is all for these flights, it's a much needed boost after the major blow suffered by United.

However, we do need to be realistic here, and no one has said anything that could be considered far fetched.

This is a small Scandinavian airline, it will be relatively unheard of (I mean, come on, we're all quite clued up enthusiasts on here and half the people are saying they have never heard of Primera. If those enthusiasts have never heard of the,, then what chance of Mr Bloggs on the high street).

Nobody is willing these flights to fail, far from it, all people are saying that this is going to be a tough ask, which it is, let's not beat around the bush. It's going to need some serious advertising, it's going to need some deep pockets initially and it's going to need patience. If Primera have that, then there will be nothing to worry about.

We all wish Primera the best, we wish BHX the best, but, we also need to be realistic about the challenges this airline will face.

Thunderchild, no disrespect to you but this is exactly the response to this news that we don't need,
The glass needs to be half full!

I honestly hope these routes are a huge success and that in a few years time my reservations are proven unfounded. But I stand by what I said, this is going to be one huge challenge and I have my doubts.

Exactly ....all airlines start somewhere!

- This is a successsful Scandinavian airline.

- BHX is the launch airport of this airlines jump into Trans-Atlantic travel

- These are brand new airplanes.

- These are regular routes direct to major destinations!!!

This is a major investment that no airline isn't going to fully back! I personally think this is amazing news. People are jealous of EDI getting a 737 to an airport 60km away from NYC ...this wins hands down!!!

I dont think you are alone by feeling "underwhelmed" by the airline, im feeling the same but im going to reserve judgement until i hear more concrete information about this new partnership.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
