Hi there all, as per my previous post, bhx landing charges are 13.00 per tonne or part, £13.00 per tonne would be 580 tonnes of weight of a380 is £7,540 or per part could be a third I think is £1,885, correct me if I am wrong with these calculations. So regarding the above why all this nonsense, when if you follow the Manchester airport policy, it's much easier to work out that, than birminghams complex one.. AndyC

The director of Cochin Airport has said that he wants to have discussions with European airports 'like Birmingham' and is willing to offer support, such as waiving airport charges, to make it happen.

You also mentioned having more connections from Europe. What exactly do you have in mind?

We have not targeted anybody (airports) but we want to have discussions with European destinations like Birmingham (because we do not want to go to Heathrow), maybe Istanbul also. We will support an airline which operates from Kochi to these destinations.

Don't follow MAN that closely - is a 2nd daily flight something that's likely to happen in the next year?

Knew the route was doing well, just didn't realise it was doing THAT well!

Very well and a second flight has been on the cards for a while, going back to a A350X in June. January
had 26 arrivals so 52 round trip with an average of 319 pax per flight

EDI have been talking to them a lot too so if it was BHX v EDI i know where i would put my money right now.

And if MAN is due to get a 2nd daily, that's BHX off the radar for another 10 years.

Cathay going to BHX or EDI first - knowing BHX's luck it would probably be EDI.

However the Anna Aero post (https://www.anna.aero/2019/03/06/100-routes-asias-top-10-airports-non-stop-service/) had BHX, in the rankings of unserved destinations from Hong Kong, as the 8th highest whereas EDI didn't feature in the top 15.

The bigger challenge for BHX will be an increase in frequency by Cathay at MAN. If MAN get's double daily (i.e. 14 flights a week) then yes BHX will be off the cards for a long while. If however MAN is increased to something like 10 flights per week (i.e. 2 flights a day on 3 days of the week), I could still see BHX being served in the next couple of years.

I seem to recall 2020 being discussed in the past 18 months as a likely route launch from Cathay.

I'd love to see Cathay here. It could open up more of a gateway to the Far East which would be a real coup. We've got the Middle East sorted... Come on BHX. Pull something out of the bag and offer incentives.

It's pretty much the same stuff that they've been banging on about for years but still haven't got anywhere with.......'strong demand to Asia'.....'Bangkok and Hong Kong top of the list'.....'significant demand to Singapore, Mumbai and Shanghai'.....'data shows enough demand for direct routes to be viable'.

A couple of years ago I'm sure that we kept hearing the same about China and look how that ended up!

Hi there Ray and all, regarding birminghams lost connection to the USA, the longer there is no direct flights to the USA from bhx, the more passengers will use other airports, this will then start to have an effect on birmingham airport popularity in being able to attract the essential business that it needs to continue with growth and build upon this, then passengers that use birmingham airport will then start to stay away from Birmingham airport, this will then will cause a ripple effect, which then won't be repaired and could damage birminghams airport's image altogether, so while we have this new ceo now in place, Mr Barton, who's been in charge three months now, needs to start a flex his mussels and start to produce the goods, so come end of this year, we need to start seeing some big or major announcements to start next year 2020, otherwise birmingham airport is going to start being left behind..
