I suspect they would restore LGW before anything else but CX has ruled this out, for the short term at least. When the talks with BHX were allegedly starting, CX had major crewing issues and I believe that continues.
What about a, damn don't know what the technical term is my brain is fuzzy - but a bit like Ethiopian at Manchester - its not a direct flight, Manchester to Addis Ababa, it goes to another European airport first then to Manchester and vice versa.

Could a Cathay service work like that - like a side stop at Birmingham?

Long haul shouldn’t be a big issue for the airport.Need airlines where they’re is massive capacity already fulfilling bhx based airlines from different airports in Europe and North Africa at the moment.for example SSH,HRG currently served by easyJet and Tui.Corendon said around 4/5 months ago they wanted to look at opportunities in Egypt operating uk flights however that speculation has gone very quiet.Air Cairo is a possibility.

Morocco aswell served 10 weekly 6 RAK 4 AGA by JET2 TUI and EasyJet
We should realistically look into Royal air Maroc.Help along unless Ryanair come tagging back with Moroccan flights

Tunisia is popular served 6 weekly by TUI and easyjet.Theres 2 airlines that I know of serve Tunisia. Nouvelair and Tunis air.

Look at turkey they have a plan from the uk with Sun express and Corendon and Pegasus (Hopefully they finally start Antalya in 2026)

There’s some medium rare opportunities and options to choose from however I think the next two airlines will be Austrian and Egypt air

Fifth freedom - not sure if Cathay operate any though.

We may see a new Turkish airline in 2026

AJet (Or Anadolujet) is owned by Turkish Airlines and since Turkish operate BHX-IST I don’t think so.

Maybe Southwind will have a try once again? After all their ban from EU airspace was lifted in December last year, I don’t know about the situation as of now in the UK regarding Southwind.

They were meant to start services at BHX back in Early-Mid 2024, never finalised due to the ban. I wonder what airline it could be though… 🤔

SunExpress is 50% owned by Turkish Airlines... Their ownership doesn't mean a route wont start.

AJets hubs at SAW and ESB operate very different models to Turkish Airlines hub at IST so who knows....

@AdamHussain07 I think the competition with Pegasus would indeed be the reason for AJet starting. AJet is the budget arm of Turkish Airlines. You see a lot of airports around Europe that have both Turkish flights to IST and AJet flights to SAW. If Turkish didn’t have AJet, Pegasus would be mopping up all of the price-conscious travellers.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
