I'm finding this ruthless elimination hilarious but also rather worrying as the only remaining possibility my frazzled brain can think of right now is a start-up airline

I'm starting to think that's the only option left.

Those in the know - is this mystery airline one that any of us will have heard of?

I'll give you the airlines to discount:

It's not Norwegian, Thomas Cook, Virgin, BA, WOW air, Westjet, AC rouge, JetBlue, any transiting airline, Monarch, Southwest or Delta

Hmmm, having been away from the forum for a couple of weeks I seem to have come back at a particularly interesting time.
Losing UAL is disappointing, but we all know that those 757s are getting a bit long in the tooth. With nothing really to replace them and the airline reluctant to upgrade to 767 something had to give. For a service to last for 20 plus years,to lose it now is a blow, but we are not the only ones to lose T/A traffic.Trading and political conditions being a major factor right now.

Now turning to the speculation,i think we can discount AC Rouge. If you were to say that an airline from North America was going to announce a single route to NA,then, maybe they would have been a good shout to Toronto. However I cannot see them announcing 3 routes, especially given the seasonal nature of their routes from other U.K.airports.
WestJet is the most likely in my opinion,as they already operate from a number of airports in Canada to LGW.It therefore leads to the question of what equipment would be used.
Whatever is used would be good for BHX.

Air India as someone mentioned earlier is another possibility.I have not seen it mentioned on here, but a couple of routes were axed earlier this week.Moscow was 1 but the other I can't remember. There has been much speculation both on forums and the Asian media regarding new services to the US and one or two routing through BHX.A return to Toronto has been on the cards as well, but we await news on that one.It does mean at least 1 Boeing 787 has been freed up,as well as another just delivered and 3 or 4 to arrive in the coming few months.Even if this news doesn't involve AI,it is certainly one to watch.
I don't think Jet Airways have ever expressed an interest in BHX,so I will discount them.

Whatever it turns out to be,I hope the airline, airport, local businesses and media give the routes and services as much airtime and written advertising as is physically possible.
It would be very dissappointing and typical of BHX for new routes to be given the welcoming fanfare, then only bow out with barely a whimper.
Can't wait for the announcement, whatever it is

Ok then User001, sorry i said i was going to give up but im back, LOL

So is it a major airline of some sort ?

It's got to be Norwegian. I mean, they launched 3 (maybe 4) transatlantic routes for Edinburgh, so they can do the same for BHX. Ap

I thought User001 had just ruled that out...

Can you add Ryanair and/or easyJet to that list?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
