Use this prefix for new threads for Birmingham Airport
In a (good) work training seminar on business development. Need to ensure this airline know their market. Get the promotion strategy in place. Maintain a clear focussed risk register. Provide a value proposition.....sorry folks getting carried away.

Whoever it is, if 3 routes to US and one to Asia is the offer, then I take back most of what I have said about the BHX and US market. Just hope it spurs others to compete and maximise choice. The right Choice breeds customers....back into training seminar mode. Lunch over.

I have no info on the USA routes, despite scratching my head to try and work out who it might be. One thing's for sure, it is ludicrous that BHX, Birmingham and the West Midlands conurbation it serves, has no direct link to New York and the USA.

On the Asia link, if it is who I think it is, it would be a major major coup for This comes with a health warning - the fact that it would be such a coup makes it inherently unlikely to happen (not least because you can bet your bottom dollar that MAN, EDI and also LHR would be vying for this business). That's not to say it is impossible, but it would be a real statement by the U.K. Regions (IMO long overdue) if this one comes off.

This is all very secret squirrel like. When are we going to get the definitive announcement?

Dobbo, interesting post, but just to glean more from what you said are you inferring that BHX in terms of securing this new route are only at the same point as MAN, EDI and LHR, or are in fact in a more forward position?
And in terms of East what does this actually mean, certainly the Indian sub-continent's links with the wider West Midlands would, in my opinion, be greater than the North West or Scotland. LHR is a totally different animal.
There again, we might not be talking about the Indian sub-continent....

Just to clarify, if everything goes to plan, are we expecting the following to be announced:

- 1 airline operating 3 routes to N.America
- 1 airline operating 1 route to Asia/Middle East

I have no info in regards to exactly when any announcement is due but if they both happen I'd expect N. America to potentially be announced fairly soon. If the other one does come to fruition my gut feeling is that we may not hear anything about it for a few months, possibly even after the New Year.

Going to be fascinating to see who the North American airline will be! Especially launching 3 routes! I hope that whoever they are, in the long term they will look at other UK regional airports which are smaller than BHX.

Birmingham Post seen to think something is happening albeit on the back of the BHX comment that they are in talks. Crossed toes that something will come off. Good value proposition and USP.

Why have TUI not been mentioned? Just about everyone else has.(Apologies if the have but with this many posts
it's hard to keep track)
They have the base and the aircraft and fit the none transit operation..Might be feeling a bit miffed they missed out at MAN.
Thomas Cook have created a product that is not only taking passengers from US airlines serving MAN but must
be taking a lot of passengers who had to travel from London and isn't the latter what it's all about?

I think it's because 3 of the routes are to the US and they do already operate from BHX so would not be considered a new airline and it seems that it's more a scheduled airline people are talking about.

Interesting speculation

Im still going for LOT Polish Airlines, dunno why but Budapest is a similar sized airport to BHX and they are launching US routes from there and also expecting some new shiny 789s in March 2018, perfect to free up a couple of 787-8s for a May 2018 start.

My only concern if it is a european airline, isnt Brexit gonna scuffle those plans ??

Depends on the deal for aviation and keeping Open skies. If it is an EU airline then they could just do the opposite of what EZY have done.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
