Following the departure of PK there has been very little coming out of BHX by way of news and this in itself on the back of good figures was viewed with a little alarm by some. I did not enter the farrago of comments in the belief that there must be a substantial reason why the PR department were not banging the drum.

Now and seemingly concurrent with the August stats being available BHX must have been aware of this latest development. And if i am right, we should see the BHX publicity machine whirr into action tonight or tomorrow, feeding both TV/radio and the media in general. Excellent news for the airport and for the travelling public in the West Midlands and beyond.

Now, if there is no 'whirring' tomorrow then i, too, will begin to get a bit worried.

Are NOR going to pick up all BHXs short Mediterranean business.

It's all very well cherry picking 2/3 long haul routes but it's 3 x day Palma Alicante Malaga which are the bread and butter.

Will NOR be inclined to take these on or dump them ?

Thank you Aceshigh this is exactly what i was thinking but thought must have missed something.
What is going to happen with the other 25/30 departures a day?

Never a dull moment at BHX is there?

While I think we should probably wait for an official announcement on all of this but if what is being reported is accurate I must say I'm in two minds about it all.

In some ways I'm thinking is bloody fantastic! It's what BHX has been crying out for, someone finally taking the initiative and giving us the sort of long haul routes/competition we need. But at the same time I can't help but think back to this time last year when Monarch appeared to be on life support and in some ways I fear this sudden shift in direction (again) could all end in tears.

However, I'm going to try and remain optimistic and assume everyone has done their homework on this.

I think I'll wait to for the official announcement before commenting further but what I will say is that double daily to JFK is certainly a bold move. After the double blow of loosing AA and UA this year it would quite the turnaround for BHX if they were to see x3 daily flights to New York next year. With the legacies seemingly unable/unwilling to make BHX work perhaps the likes of Monarch and Primera can?

Yes we have to remember that Monarch was infact losing money so the turn round will have to be dramatic, immediate and sustainable for NOR to remain comitted.

The departure times on prune look odd

Also I wonder what Primera think.
I suspect they are seething.
Will they remain onside ?

All entertaining stuff. ;)

Indeed, very interesting times.

Is this the start of a Long haul revolution at BHX, I really really hope so. This could be our chance and we must take it, some of it may not work but some has the potential to change this airport for good.

Me too will wait for the official announcement to comment further.

2 flights a day sounds like a utilisation thing. Maybe there is something about how Monarch are going to configure these 737s that means they don't want to use them on short haul routes - like a premium cabin.

like a premium cabin.
A premium cabin would make sense especially as Norwegian have one on their routes and Primera will have one as well. Depending on how many aircraft they fit out they could still use them on the short haul side as well.

Hi there ray and all, I think Birmingham airport situation at present is because there is no Chief Executive in place still at the airport yet at the moment, this will cause an in balance with in the organisation as there's no one yet in charge to take an responsibility and make those big announcements when needed.. All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
