Fingers crossed this means United will return to serving Newark from BHX!

United places firm order for 50 A321XLRs

United Airlines has ordered 50 Airbus A321XLRs, a long-range narrowbody that the carrier says it will use to replace older models and to expand on transatlantic routes.

Unfortunately they're not being delivered until 2024:

United expects to acquire the first of the 50 new A321XLRs in 2024 and to begin international service with the type the following year.

Knowing BHX, New York will still unlikely be served by then!

It would be nice to see United back although 2024 seems such a long way off.

Hopefully something can be done with JetBlue before then.

Well they didn't get any slots at Heathrow which was what they wanted so will be interesting to see which London airport they decide to go for.

Hate to be bearer of bad news but delivery starts in 2024 services to commence 2025 !

Yes........mentioned in my original post and reiterated by Ray........

Just to rub salt in the wound Virgin Holidays are opening a travel shop at Grand Central, further promoting other airports and kicking BHX further into the ground.

Every single person who will go into this shop will not have BHX as an option. :(

And there's me going on the BHX route development thread hoping to discover some positive news, silly me.

They will sell holidays from BHX as well especially to the East using Emirates and Qatar and they'll offer flights to the USA using KLM/Delta via AMS, well at least they do from Cardiff.

Sorry Jerry I should of been more clearer, I meant using there in house airline.

Yeah exactly :(
Look on the bright side at least BHX has TUI operating Orlando, other airports have no one and have more chance of their staff winning the lottery than ever having Orlando or other west bound routes.

First time I've seen the initial thoughts from United on the A321XLR routes, It's not only Newark and Washington but also Chicago that will see international routes operated by them, But the most important, and bad thing, is what they are proposing to begin with:

"United Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Nocella ... said the XLR most likely would fly initially to cities in France, Spain, Portugal and Germany ""

Sharm El Sheikh returns tomorrow with the first flight from the UK in around four years departing BHX at 07:00.

Enter Air flights to Banjul commenced today, the return is due back around 22:20.

I've moved the other discussion to the General Thread as it's not really directly related to route news.

back to actual new routes I see on arrival board we have SAS from Oslo & Flybe from Newquay & Nantes coming up later Today
& yes I do realise very short season flights

So excellent loads to I hear although it's to be expected this time of year.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
