Play are in the ACL Scottie
I agree however it's interesting how FlyPlay have applied for daily slots which, between 25th March and 28th October, equals 31 weeks (31 x 14 = 434) which also happens to be the exact number of slots for the unknown Originair.

This is exactly the same for Manchester.

Maybe a coincidence, but I would put my bet on PLAY.

There are others
Pegasus to Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen (SAW) would be a nice addition!

Just over a week ago, I flew Pegasus on the short flight from Antalya to Istanbul (SAW). It was a full A321Neo and noticed at check in a lot of passengers with transfer bags, no doubt connecting at SAW. They have built up a decent hub at SAW and become a bit of specialist for connections domestically and to countries immediately surrounding Turkey. They even serve Pakistan and India - we had passengers with tags on to DEL ahead of us.

In addition to the above, they would provide additional capacity to Istanbul.

Like Ryanair and easyJet this is an airline that puts bums on seats so hopefully they add more capacity to the UK with BHX one of their choices.

Pegasus do not currently serve Delhi. In Pakistan they only serve Karachi which has lower demand from UK than, say, Islamabad or Lahore. They have good connectivity elsewhere.

As for Qatar I very much doubt it would start at twice daily going from nothing. They would want to prove the route as loads pre covid were variable. I would expect a 5 or 7 weekly 788, although a twice daily slot application would be normal so they can decide on timings.

Again great if it happens & the more flights/choices the better, it does sound a lot of seats to fill & I realise not just point to point pax…..but in Birmingham there are a lot of Turkish barbers !
Turkish Barbers popping up everywhere now around the Birmingham and Black Country New one in Darlaston by me, couple in Wolverhampton that I know of

And why am I not surprised ?

Who on earth would launch an airline right now ? I could see the writing on the wall 2 years ago during the pandemic when this was first mooted.

I am afraid the future is Air India , lets stick with what we know.

It is a very fluid situation, all should be revealed very soon.

Hans have no income at present, they are having to pay their staff, office costs, the A330 leasing costs, Birmingham Airport parking fees etc. not to mention any route licenses, UK AOC costs, and in this current climate, with the cost of living etc. how can they possibly survive?? Having worked in Finance all my life, the figures do not add up.

Why have they not leased out their A330 for example, so they can at least get some income? Is some new investor really going to pump in millions to keep them afloat?

much as I want them to be a success and survive, I just can't see it happening now. 🙄

According to slots etc, qatar will use the A350-1000. Not sure what their thinking, but i do think demand will be fair for qatar as many people tend to use them. It could also be the 900 series too.

I think these are just slot requests. Edinburgh survived the covid cull and has performed well. It only has a daily A359. The 1000 only appears on rare occasions when a capacity uplift is required. If they are returning at all, it will need to be announced soon.

It's been reported on the EDI forum that Qatar airways have also requested double daily slots there, so not impossible for BHX if Qatar want to compete with Emirates.

Hans Airways today announces the successful completion of a new round of financing which will enable it to progress plans to commence scheduled air services between Birmingham and Amritsar in India - and satisfy existing financial obligations.

Hans Airways has satisfied the Civil Aviation Authority's requirements for an Air Operator’s Certificate. The secured new investment will take the airline to the next stage toward satisfying the CAA of its financial viability and subsequent operating licence to provide revenue air services.

Aligned to the new investment is a management restructure. COO Nathan Burkitt takes on the role of CEO from Satnam Saini, who continues with the airline as a Board director. Dr Barry Humphreys assumes the role of interim Chairman, succeeding Ruchir Verma.

The airline's Board now comprises: Dr Barry Humphreys, Jane Middleton, Dr Peter Malanik, Kirpal Jass, Indervir Jass, Satnam Singh Saini, Nathan Burkitt and Sulagna Roy as Company Secretary.

“Establishing a new airline is never straight-forward and there will inevitably be hurdles along the way. Hans Airways is now well positioned to move forward. With growing evidence of strong demand for additional air services between the UK and India, supplemented by charter opportunities, we have every expectation of being able to launch,” commented Hans Airways Chair Dr Barry Humphreys

“I am entrusting Nathan and his fine team to deliver my vision for Hans Airways. It has been a long journey and I look forward to continue supporting as Board director,” said Satnam Saini.

Ali Legal, a London City based corporate law firm acted for the investors. Their team was led by Managing Partner and Corporate Lawyer Akbar Ali.

About Hans Airways

Hans Airways is the UK’s newest hybrid, airline venture, blending value for money fares with a quality inflight service offering. Hans Airways will offer two classes of cabins: Economy class (called "Anand"), with a 31-inch seat pitch and 274 seats, and Premium Economy (called "Anand Plus"), offering a 56" pitch and 24 seats. It will offer high quality complementary inflight entertainment and catering as standard.

A loyalty programme is planned. To be known as FlyHAPEEI (Hans Airways Passengers Environment Education Initiative), it will reward passengers with all the regular benefits of a frequent flyer programme and with a strong emphasis on corporate social responsibility, create opportunities to donate to children’s educational charities in India or conservation and water preservation projects.

Hans Airways’ senior management has identified a high demand for regular secondary city air links between the UK and India, drawing on its founder’s considerable experience instigating a series of charter flights for Monarch Airlines and FlyJet.

It intends to have a close working relationship with travel agencies and travel management companies.

Hans Airways submitted its UK AOC application in March 2020, following extensive discussions with the UK Civil Aviation Authority and Department for Transport.

Hans Airways’ management team (see Board of Directors and Leadership Team) share an extensive experience of the commercial aviation industry and a deep understanding of the needs of its core focus market. Financial support for the airline has come, inter alia, from the Indian community in the UK (see Investor Relations).

A little more detail on the above announcement-

Asked for more details about the new investors, the sums involved, and a possible date for the start of flight operations, Martin Dunn, Hans Airways’ chief commercial officer, told ch-aviation: “All that I can say for now is that we will hopefully be able to start services early next year and we’re still working closely with the CAA.”

They will offering the aircraft for charter work initially, India will follow at some point.

I believe that without an AOC (Air Operators Certificate) issued by the CAA, they cannot lease out the aircraft, to be flown by their own crews i.e. a 'wet' lease). Their only option would be a 'dry lease', whereby the airline leasing the aircraft would supply crews, maintenance, handling and fueling contracts etc. This is only likely to work for a long term dry lease, but not for short or single flight leases.

Posted on another forum by Olton Pete that Eurowings to announce Berlin soon. I think from memory another member posted on here that they had recently applied for slots three or four weekly either way would be good to see another route return.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
