They will need more stands in the next few years, especially widebodied ,and to urgently restart the mothballed lounge and baggage hall extension.

I'm hearing they cannot accept any more widebodied planes certain times of the day from mid summer on certain days, apart from the already booked Qatar, Saudia,EK.Due to stand and terminal limitations.
Not sure where that would leave Air India or any other airline if they wanted to add any more flts/ routes from BHX around these times, which may be required for onward connections ?

I'm sure some of that will be eased once the T2 stand reconfig is complete. How many Jet2 aircraft are currently parking on T1 stands capable of handling wide bodies?

I could certainly see the next phase of stand reconfigurations being upgrading T1 stands to allow 1 wide body or 2 narrow body aircraft.

It's mainly the 11-2pm time where most wide bodies arrive. Later on is okay for now

Once the Code C stand work is complete on the South Terminal work will start to modify the 80's stands.
No plans to restart terminal work.

They can get 2 more A321/738s on the side done and 2 more when they do the other stands tge other side of Eurohub next winter.
However I'm told to achieve this the only widebodied stand around Eurohub (8C) will have to be downgraded to narrowbody..
There are no plans to add widebodied stands around Eurohub in the next 5-7 years according to the 2018 masterplan tinetable
To achieve that the grass area infront of Eurohub will have to go and apron extended out. That will allow a widebodied either side.
Which is why they need to bring all their plans forward quickly..

If we discount 2020 and 2021 things are definitely starting to look a little healthier under Nick Barton.

I think we shouldn't forget Tom Screen and all the work that he put in to secure the easyjet base. He'll probably never read this but massive congratulations are in order 🥂

The question is... what next? 😁

JetBlue to New York JFK ;-)

or Air India to EWR ;-)

But if more and more wide bodies start coming, a 2nd runway will eventually be required

To be honest cannot see anymore runways built as even Heathrow is very doubtful now with possibly Gatwick except using the runway they have already with limits due it being so close together together

They abandoned the 2 runway airport idea a few years ago.The néw one was to be located the other side of the NEC with very long taxiways to reach.

Previously they looked at building a brand new 2 runway airport in the Meriden gap.

Hopefully growth to India not too far away.

Tom Screen did meet with an airline regarding flight to USA, I think he said with a view to a 2024 start. It would be interesting to know how those talks went.

Most, if not all, of Jet2 with be in T2 by next year which will hopefully ease things a little. When MAEL had the hangar there was talk of a third bay being added, maybe they could just put the concrete down to give STS some extra parking rather than using the remotes?

I'd have thought that adding some of the proposed stands by the fire station would be a relatively quick and cheap way of accommodating more. If they also concrete over the brook there could be quite a few added.

I think the fact BHX decided not to attend Routes Americas in Chicago in March probably answers your question..

BHX have previously met with both Jet Blue and Breeze, but neither fit into Birminghams required model as they are premium seat heavy.

Jet Blue have stated that they may be interested in starting Manchester, and show on the airlines bucket list future map.BHX does not.

I'm hopeful that when Jet 2 base their A321NEOs at BHX in the future, it gives them a range option to restart New York shopping trips at least.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
