Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

The Qatar rumour seems to have gathered pace, similar to the American rumour just before they announced JFK. I guess this time there is added weight as William Pearson has been in Doha recently although it may have been for leisure. I'm not holding my breath as we've been here before but if a September start is planned I imagine we'll hear something in the next few weeks.

Someone has asked about QR on Twitter and BHX have replied 'keep following for route announcements'. I don't take too much notice of what is said on there as they usually have no idea but in the past I've seen them reply things like 'it would be nice to see' or 'no plans at the moment but maybe in the future'.

We shall see.

A350 would certainly be a coup although I agree the 787 is still the more logical choice.

I always assumed that a 787 would be used if they ever started BHX too but I guess their A350's only have an extra 29 seats and similar cargo capacity so you never know. It certainly would be nice to see one.

As an aside is it just me or is the A350 one hell of an ugly airplane?

It reminds me of the 787, fantastic body but a face only a mother could love

Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

Never say never, we all said exactly the same about American starting up at BHX. "Im not holding my breath" and Hey Presto. American are back at BHX in May 2015.

BHX can do it and WILL do it.

Keep the faith

Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

Does nothing for me I'm afraid, the flat nose's on the 787, A350 and the E-170s etc just look like something from a Lego set in my eyes! Give me a 757, A330 or a Tristar anyday!

Ever considered a career as a motivational speaker

I hope we'll hear something in the near future. Whether we'll be lucky enough to get an A350 I don't know but I'd be overjoyed with a 787 :)

Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

I wouldn't trust anything on Wikipedia and if this is the source of the latest rumour I won't be getting my hopes up.

Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

A great illustration of things to come.

Great to see the 777 still king of the jungle. :hatsoff:

Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

That's a great picture, it's surprised me that the A350-9 is longer than the 777-200.

I agree though the 777-300 is hard to beat.

Why so? Appearance, performance, cargo capacity?

But where's the 748i?!?!?!

The 748 ???? What aircraft is that, LOL

You dont hear of this aircraft any more, dont think its been the success Boeing had hoped. Not many orders apparently.

You make a good point, however the illustration is just to compare the rivalry between Boeing and Airbus in these size of aircraft.

Also no Airbus A380 or Boeing 748 or indeed that monster A340-600 (Horrid thing) (All these aircraft has limitations at many airports including BHX, the aircraft on the illustration wont have the same limitations i am led to believe so much more airport friendly.

I don't know really.

I've never seen an A350 in the flesh but in my mind I had it at only slightly larger than the 787. It just surprised me slightly that the 800 series is actually longer than the A332 and the 900 series longer than the 772.

It's made me hope that we get one even more now :)

Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

Birmingham will be signing an MOU with Guangzhou at this weekends 'routes Asia' in Kunming.

Makes the fact China Southern didn't return possibly even more frustrating for BHX?

To be fair, none of us and including you have any idea what is going on behind the scenes with everything Re: China.

Just becouse China southern are not doing the charters this year, means nothing. How do we know they wont announce BHX-Guangzhou later in the year or indeed in 5 years time. We simply dont know.

Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

Birmingham has been twinned with Guangzhou for many years, as it has Chicago. BHX and ORD are 'sister airports' yet it hasn't helped attract a flight, BHX also signed a MOU with a Caribbean airport some time ago (Antigua I think it was?) and again there are no direct flights that have followed.

If BHX are talking to China Southern then a MOU isn't go to make things happen any quicker, likewise if China Southern aren't interested in BHX a MOU won't change their minds.

I'd say it's for more publicity in China.

Whoa there,

A bit of a curt reply there.

I have not once claimed to 'know everything behind the scenes re:China' Not once have I ever claimed China Southern would not return.

I have simply claimed that signing a memorandum with a city that is home base to China southern, who, have not returned this summer (fact) may be a source of frustration, nothing more, nothing less.

How about we leave the arsey tones for thother sites :diablo:

Maybe its a twinning with the airport then, there is definately some sort of MOU being signed with Guangzhou at Kunming

In fairness to Brum X he's generally a cheery kind of chap so I think his post may appear in a different context to what he actually means, unless he's having a really bad day? :whiteflag:

I would imagine so, similar to agreements with Delhi and Chicago although the Delhi agreement was signed after the return of AI and ORD hasn't led to anything. I still think it's more for the publicity than anything else.

Birmingham and Chicago O’Hare become sister airports to strengthen links

Chicago backing campaign to reinstate direct flights to Birmingham

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
