Who wants to make the first guess on who the seventh new airline will be?

Paul Kehoe ‏@Paul_Kehoe Jun 17
yes we do need more on top of the 7 new airlines this year. Working on that. More pax that fly - more interest from airlines

@Paul_Kehoe So far I count 6 new airlines, AA, FI, DY, VY, W6 and VG. Are you classing Hainan as the 7th or is there still one more to come?

there may well be. You'll have to wait patiently, Ray.

Probably it's Hainan but PK's tweet leaves me waiting expectantly...unless Wizz are the seventh.

How about if Hainan was to announce a new BHX Scheduled flight during the next few months when they will already be at BHX. That would be a great way to announce Birmingham and then this really would be the 7th New airline.

The last Hainan rumour I heard was PVG-EDI-MAN which seems a far from ideal schedule. Who knows what's going on behind the scenes though.

I'm still convinced it's Qatar, although after Etihads tie up with Jet Airways maybe they're after some of the BHX-India market?

I do not think that likely as there is a much larger Chinese community in Greater Manchester than Greater Birmingham.

However The West Mids (aka Greater Birmingham) exports more to China than Greater Manchester so this may also play a part in a decision an airline makes.

Certain Airlines have the idea that the passengers will pay for the flight to operate and the cargo revenue is the profit. Certain routes will attract high revenue freight for historical reasons but normally the mix is quite good. On the whole rates for cargo are on the low side but some carriers do keep their rates artificially high.

Some of the morning arrivals tomorrow.

Only four weeks or so until we can add EK41 to that list

I see Qatar are increasing LHR to 7x daily on four days per week and retaining their second daily A380 throughout the winter. With them now 2x daily at MAN, and not seeing the greatest loads, I wonder what all that extra capacity could mean for a potential BHX service?

How come LHR is full to capacity but airlines still are increasing frequencies at the airport ???

Im sure Qatar are aware that they have alot of catching up to do if they wanna get close to Emirates, im sure BHX is on there radar still. They would be silly if it wasnt.

I'm not 100%'sure how it all works but there a few flights ending around the same time the new QR service starts - the Virgin flights to EDI and ABZ, Delta are pulling LAX and EWR and SAS sold the slots for GOT. I guess it all comes down to £££$$$€€€

Thanks for explaining that, ive thought for a long time how it all worked.

I believe SAS are taking the GOT to stansted, now that is a change of direction for both SAS and STN ????

There also seems to be alot of empty seats available from Heathrow.

I'm sure I read that in the run up to the Olympics Heathrow experienced it's busiest day ever yet only one airline upgraded aircraft (I think it was Azerbaijan using a 787).

I guess they want the frequencies to please the top end punters.

I forgot about that Routes Online report that said William Pearson was in talks with a Middle East carrier. Qatar may still come good...or we may get something even better.

SAS moving Gothenburg to Stansted is a bit of a strange one and I wonder how long that will last as I believe it is mainly a business route and would therefore be unsuited for an airport that is further from London.

Yeah, BHX needs its GOT back and quick. It was a popular business route.

Sun Air have gone very quiet although I would love to have them here. Manchester is proof that they can make it work and I believe Billund also needs a look at.
Quite apart from having a BA tail back of course!

I remember reading the same thing, don't think it was Azerbaijan though, pretty sure they didn't receive there 787s until this year.

BA won't return to Birmingham. They are the past. I'm more concerned that airlines such as Virgin don't utilise BHX, when the regions is clearly underserved for flights to Florida and Las Vegas. They could make a killing!

Our hopes lie with the more ambitious and forward thinking airlines such as Emirates, Etihad, Qatar and also Norwegian.

My travel ambitions include more Western US travel, Australia, and frequent trips to Europe. The airlines will have to come to me, as I'm fed up with the hassle of travelling to T5.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
