Hi there ray and all, regarding latest caa figures, yes may not have hit the 10,000,000 figure, not the end of the world, as I said before about passenger numbers and growth, you got to wait till next January 16th 2016 for Decembers numbers before you can say whether Birmingham has passenger the 10 million or not, remember, Birmingham last year was some 279,541 short of the 10 million, per month that 24,500 per month extra, so long as each month is more than 25,000 then Birmingham will have hit and passed the mark, also regarding American Airlines, emirates, wizz, just have to wait till next year to so what extra growth it brings and extra routes... Andyc

The CAA doesn't include transit passengers for some reason, and as has been said on the CAA/Provisional Stats thread, it was those transit passengers that nudged us past the mark.

10 million has already been passed. I know that I thought we'd creep and not blaze past 10 million, but next year it looks like we could start accelerating away. With expansion including Punta Cana from Thomson, announcements expected from Norwegian and Vueling, and expansion expected from Wizz Air since Luton and Doncaster are pretty much full up, it looks like the 2016-17 flying season will be a very good one for BHX :)

My mistake, Doncaster isn't full up, Wizz are just looking to expand elsewhere into the UK apart from Doncaster.

Interesting to see that the big man my PK isn't there, unless he's following behind.

Regardless, I wish them all luck, hopefully they bring back the bacon!!!

The airport bosses themselves rarely attend these route events. Normally leave it to the routes team, it's them who do all the work anyway.

Having the airport boss at route launches is merely a PR excersise and nothing more, they very rarely take part in getting the route.

What a great day so far, next summer is looking as follows if today’s news and rumours are likely to be confirmed:

Norwegian – 9 weekly flights
(BCN 2x weekly, MAD 2x weekly, AGP 3x weekly, LPA 1x weekly, TFS 1x weekly)

Vuelling – 10 weekly flights
(BCN 5x weekly, ALC 3x weekly, PMI 2x weekly*)

Wizz – 7 weekly flights
(WAW 3x weekly, BUD 2x weekly, POZ 2x weekly)

Next summer, the above 3 airlines could represent circa 26 weekly flights, and that, I hope, is not the end of it. In the above scenerio, the number of flights operated in summer has not increased since winter which would be rare so we wait with baited breathe to see what they have in store with BHX. Lets hope the BHX team bring home the bacon at this years world routes conference.

However, until then those 26 weekly flights represent circa 9,600 seats weekly, or 42,000 seats per month during the summer peak.

And to think not twelve months ago we were all looking for the nearest high bridge after Flybe had just decimated the BHX route network  I don't think anyone could have predicted what has happened since then.

Just Norwegian to come now, I have a feeling we're going to be impressed ;)

From what I hear the BHX curry and cocktails are quite a hit at the route conferences

Hopefully BHX will be able to secure something good - these new Euro routes are fantastic but another long haul one wouldn't go a miss!

TK double daily everyday would be another bonus.

When MAN has seen the level of TK expansion it has, including rumours of 3 new routes in the next 15 months (Dalaman, Sabhia Ghoken and Ankara), it makes me wonder what is stopping TK adding that little 2 weekly flights to go 2 daily at BHX?

Strange, they're not even using many larger aircraft.

Perhaps landing charges are the reason, same as with Air Transat? But then why the recent LCC influx? To be fair it hasn't been too long since they went 12 weekly and I would be surprised if we didn't see 2 daily next summer.

It is strange that the A330 hasn't visited BHX again.

Just yesterday, MAN saw 2 A330's and an A321' so, would have expected BHX to see an A330 as there was obviously a large influx yesterday. I'm even told the TK1491/2 flight last night was just 12 bookings away from being upgraded to an A330 also.

I suppose next year could be one to watch. It seems from the MAN rumours, TK are looking to expand again.

These are the extra flights we're going to see next summer, so far, from Vueling, Norwegian, Iberia and Wizz. Obviously more routes may be added and if Norwegian do base aircraft then timings may change.

Most days things are quite nicely spread out with many arrivals during the off peak time. This obviously doesn't take into account delays.

As it stands:

I believe Vueling may be going 5 weekly in July/August, same as this year?

Also, what's with the D8 code? Has it changed for Spanish based ops or are Norwegian changing their IATA code altogether?

The obvious market for Norwegian to enter next is Scandinavia. Stockholm, Oslo and Helsinki, Bergen, Gothenburg, Billund and Stavanger all unserved. Even Copenhagen might be worth a try up against SAS's two daily.

well, as im sure many of you don't need to be told, but today is the official start of the Worlds Routes Congress in South Africa ...so whats this space for rumours and announcements....

I hear the official announcement of some of the routes we know of will be happening tomorrow.... but will there be any more?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
