Hi there ray and all, after quickly scanning the up and coming routes of America's 2016, I noticed apart from Bhx, Birmingham, no other UK airport is attending this conference, so this is Birmingham chance to knuckle down and do some real hard networking in business and hopefully all will reap the benefits soon... Let's hope... Andyc

Lets hope so.

Although it's titled Routes America it covers North, Central and South. With Tom Screen stating that growth into Canada will be a priority they may be going there with that as a primary focus.

Announcements for 2017 probably won't start happening until towards the end of the year so even if they do have some success we may not know about it straight away.

Barcelona looks set to be one of our busiest destinations this summer. Here's what the schedule will look like in August:

Monday: 1x Ryanair, 1x Monarch, 1x Vueling

Tuesday: 2x Ryanair, 1x Monarch, 1x Vueling, 1x Norwegian

Wednesday: 1x Ryanair, 1x Vueling

Thursday: 1x Ryanair, 1x Monarch, 1x Vueling, 1x Norwegian

Friday: 1x Ryanair, 1x Monarch, 1x Vueling

Saturday: 2x Ryanair, 1x Monarch, 1x Vueling

Sunday: 1x Ryanair, 1x Monarch, 1x Vueling, 1x Norwegian

It's going to be an interesting summer with such competition.

It's also interesting to see that Ryanair are carrying Madrid into winter at the same frequency and on the same days as Iberia. I seriously doubt that Monarch will carry MAD into winter but if Norwegian do then it's difficult to see three airlines doing well during the off season? Norwegian have carried impressive loads to Madrid this winter but prices at times have appeared pretty low so it'd be interesting to know the yields that they are getting.

Hi there ray and all, I think that once qatar have started at end of March 2016, if they see that demand is there and load factors are more than 50% plus, plus also passenger numbers increase more than predicted, then I think that qatar might start double daily after end of April and then see how it goes and grows, this will also be the same I think with Emirates with there nee A380 service starting end of March 2016, let's just hope and se that things really take off well for both emirates and qatar, you never know what they may decide to do next... Andyc

Qatar are like Turkish in using 'right aircraft for the right day'.

Just because the B787 is scheduled doesn't mean that's what will turn up. I wouldn't be surprised if like MAN and LHR, BHX ends up seeing a full on mix of A330-200/300, B787, B77L and B77W (and obviously LHR sees the A380 on top of that list).

Hi there ray and all, so where are we going to expect, where Birminghams real extra growth is going to come from this year -Emirates, Qatar, Turkish, Norweign, American. For to try and catch up with Edinburgh and Luton, One of these five mentioned above needs to have an exceptional year this year, to help Birminghams growth for further expansion... Andyc

Emirates have an extra 773 and an upgrade to an A380, Qatar 8 flights on a 787, Turkish 2 extra 738's and Norwegian have Tenerife and Gran Canaria seeing their first summer (with the later going 2x weekly in Oct) and an extra Barcelona.

That's a decent amount of extra seats, which of course need to be filled. It is however slightly disappointing that we haven't seen anything new from Norwegian.

American started in May so will be on par with last year after that.

I also think Wizz play a big part in this years growth with three new routes yet to start and two others already seeing frequency increases. You also can't ignore an extra based Ryanair, an extra based Monarch and plenty of growth from Flybe.

Although BHX have added alot this year EDI has too, so the gap may close a little but I don't think we'll catch them. Luton is seeing outrageous growth at the moment (+25% in Jan making 22 consecutive months of growth) and if rumours are to be believed they have plenty more to come.

It's only my opinion but I reckon to catch up with those two we need another airline to open a BHX base, either that or something pretty amazing from one of our existing airlines.

We can hope

BHX route development team have arrived in Puerto Rico ahead of the Routes conference
Info from Twitter

The route development team must be buzzing at the minuite, what a great job to have. And they go to Puerto Rico from an upbeat and booming BHX, passenger figures in 2015 at 10.2 million and now we have increased by another 9% in January 2016. They can tell the world that Qatar are arriving soon and that BHX has secured a daily A380 Scheduled flight. All of this really sells BHX in a very positive way. Airlines hopefully will be attracted to BHX like never before.

Also great to see that BHX have confirmed on there twitter account to somebody that both AA and UA will be flying to New York on the 1st Jan 2017 in response to a question. Great to see both of our US carriers at BHX next winter 2016/2017.

If true that is good news from our Americans friends.
I am sure most here have some concern over the JFK service,so to get a commitment like that is great.

I'd say it was for leisure.

Although I'm more optimistic than I've ever been about Birmingham's ability to gain new services I just can't see NZ.

I'd love to be proven wrong though

I hope things are going well for them at Routes.

He may be with Emirates returning from Auckland. Flights to Dubai from Auckland go via both Sydney and Melbourne (separate flights that is) and I think possibly also via Brisbane.

When I'm en route to Oz there are two EK flights to Auckland departing Dubai almost at the same time, one via Melbourne and the other via Sydney. You have to be careful you catch the correct one. :s_omg

And to think that they'll be doing Dubai to Auckland direct soon. Qatar will also be doing Doha to Auckland direct which comes in at a whopping 18 hours and 34 mins :shok:

Dubai to Sydney at around 14 hours is more than enough for me.

Hi there David, regarding your news on vim avia , if this is confirmed along with Manchester, this excellent news again for Birmingham Airport, hopefully another joining in and adding another destination for bhx, am I correct, but I don't think that bhx has any direct or regular or even charter flights to Moscow at all does it, correct me if iam wrong, anyway, excellent news if it happens, all I can say ,just keep these announcement keep coming...Andyc

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
