New cargo operator?

It's been posted on another forum that an Essex-based cargo airline are looking to start a BHX-Maastricht/Eindhoven operation, competing with Atlantic Airlines' Coventry-based flights to Maastricht.

...im not overly familiar with the workings of cargo flights, but an interesting sounding route ...

also, line with the routes and rumours section, looking at twitter, you can see that Will Pearson and Tom Steele of the BHX Route Development Team have made it to Malaysia for the Routes Asia Congress..... they flew emirates in business class by the looks of things!!!

starts in 3 days I believe!

Re: Routes Asia in Manila.

The perfect platform for the announcement of Beijing Capital

The question is, will there be any other announcements?

It is indeed Ray the perfect platform to announce our flights to China, lets hope other hot leads come from this too.

Hi there ash, just looked at the job advert you mentioned, looking at the job description, there is no mention of Bhx at all in job description, it only states location as Europe and uk...Andyc

BA Cityflyer currently hiring E170/190 Captains advertised through CAE Aviation to be based at BHX for an 8 month contract beginning April.

The link originally named Birmingham specifically, which can still be seen thru other job sites but was pulled and changed to "UK Base".

Interesting. I assume that any flights would be weekend charters similar to the ones that other airports have seen? A good way to use the aircraft whilst London City is closed.

I have not heard anything about this new set-up but would not be surprised about it at all.

Dependant on what they are looking to operate the flights with it "could" be quite a money maker. There are always express shipments needing to get out to the Continent where a man with a van (whilst reliable) is not the quickest option available.

The only drawback is that express courier companies are out there in such numbers that you can normally (99% of the time) find someone who is looking for a return load and is willing to charge next to nothing for the run.

Of course one good dock strike (memories of the '80s there) can make an Airlines year.

According to a poster on another forum, it was hinted by Thomson that they might use the 767 for the flights to Dubai. However, I think this is problematic, although I'd like it for the sake of variety.

Firstly, the 767s are supposed to be going to TUIfly in Germany after the S16 season. Secondly, I believe we have nine weekly Thomson long haul flights for W16-17. Either the 767 operates both the flight to Dubai and a flight to another destination, meaning passengers miss out on the Dreamliner experience, or the 767 operates only Dubai, meaning we need a second 787 for just one weekly flight, which would be less efficient than if the same aircraft did both flights.

Does anyone know the day-by-day schedule for W16-17?

Thomson W16/17

Sun - Barbados and Montego Bay

Mon - Dubai and Cuncun

Tue - Montego Bay

Wed - Punta Cana

Thur - Cancun

Fri - Barbados

Sat - Barbados

A friend of mine who travels to the USA regularly emailed Paul Kehoe yesterday about routes such as Florida and Las Vegas.

He replied that whilst they have seen success heading east it is proving more challenging heading west. He cites the huge offering from airports relatively close to Birmingham as a major obstacle and says that persuading airlines to open up more routes in what they consider the same market is difficult. He also said that it is going to take time to see the changes in the airline and passenger behaviour that they want.

My friend specifically mentioned Norwegian. Mr Kehoe's response was that there will be no long haul from them in the short term but they are hoping for some in the mid term. He also says that their short haul routes are doing well and if that continues he is sure that they will add more.

He then says that although this isn't the answer he wanted to hear he 'hoped to bring the choices he wanted soon'.

He closes the reply with 'Please watch out for further developments'.

It's very good of him to reply and my friend said that his responses came within a matter of hours. Once again I admire his honesty, there is no spin, he just said it exactly how it is. Well done Mr Kehoe :good:

As for watch out for further developments, there are some pretty juicy rumours out there at the moment, I hope one or two come to fruition soon

Rumours of AA ORD and Delta recently so they are certainly trying....

And you cant ask for more than that can you.

I believe everything he says, considering when you have Thomas Cook up the M6 not wanting to move one bit with any long haul expansion other than MAN/LGW and then Virgin Atlantic replying to somebody on here saying that they would have to see hard evidence before they would even consider BHX. To me that does indicate that they are watching BHX, so if we can keep the likes of AA, airlines such as United upgrading to there 767s in the near future, Icelandair continue to expand there services and all our other long haul routes continue to do ok, then maybe in a couple of years these airlines will also take note of BHX. But im afraid we will have to be patient. For me though, i am happy with where BHX are at the moment and i look forward to year on year growth like we have seen last year and will this year and i look forward to further announcements about new airlines and routes in the future. And he did mention Norweigan Long Haul in the medium term, so there is hope there too.

Hi there Brumx, I'd have to agree with you, for Birmingham to get either Virgin or Delta airlines, very strong evidence is needed to confirm to them that demand is there at Birmingham, to start up flights to either florida, miami, or las Vegas, or even flights to la, I think that once Birmingham has shown the hard evidence to both Virgin and Delta that the demand is there, then it's when they start up those flights... Great stuff, we are seeing a nice bit of variety these days, especially during the summer months.

Used to love seeing the "Haribo" TUIfLY 737 that thomson used a couple of years ago.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
