Hello All, thought it was time to post on the forum after browsing for a few months!

Air one of Italy doing some UK flying, including BHX

Thursday's.

Evelop also flying on a Monday.

AP is actually the new flight code for Spanish IT carrier AlbaStar, who will be operating the Thursday flights on behalf of Thomson, Air One of Italy actually ceased operations back in October 2014.

Evelop is also operating their usual Saturday flights too on behalf of Thomas Cook, so at present should be operating 3 times a week during the peak summer months!

Hi Matt and welcome to the forum.

Totally forgot about the Evelop Thomas Cook flight on a Sat. Thanks for the info on Alba Star, it's nice to have some variety over the summer.

Welcome to the forum Matt :good:

I think we have had x 2 new members join our group in the last couple of days, its nice to see.

Welcome Matt and thanks for the information. Maybe this summer's charter program at Birmingham will be the most interesting than the past few years? We will be seeing a little more variety. :good:

well in other news, Routes Asia starts today and extends until Tuesday.... this doesn't mean there will be an announcements but we can only dream to know what conversations are taking place!!!

Hainan Airways, Beijing Capital Airlines as well as BHX are all there... wonder if they fancy making an announcement?!?!?

Good luck to the BHX Team!

Singapore Airlines is to codeshare on the SAS Copenhagen-BHX route. Potentially hat's a good thing - SQ pondering a medium to long-term route so could perhaps indirectly gauge demand.

Can't be a bad thing however, I must admit, I'm always a little skeptical of how codeshares influence the travel habits of passengers. That said, at least the route will be marketed more widely through the relevant websites!

Interesting at first, but then you realise that 3 of those routes have all been tried and failed. However Basel was semi successful, operated at the time by Crossair with Sb2000s.
Maybe time to give it another go,but which airline would fly the route??
As for Bremen and Munster, maybe possible if Lufthansa city line could operate them.Again I don't know what other airline would give it a go,possibly FlyBe.
Of them all Cagliari could be a good summer route,I think it has been served in the past.
I don't know enough about that area though to decide whether a year round service would work.
I don't think Cologne or Billund will appear on our departure boards again for a while!!!

I think that the route shop website is quite out of date. When you search for 'unserved routes to any city' Jersey, Murcia and Budapest are also listed.

Birmingham Airport's profile also looks considerably out of date with several routes 'due to start in 2012'. Out of interest their profile still lists as unserved routes:

Athens
Berlin
Budapest
Lisbon
Madrid
Milan
Rome
Salzburg
Venice
Warsaw

All of these are served.

The only two listed that aren't are Cologne and Valencia. Cologne has been tried how many times? Valencia would be most welcome though :s_yes

It would be smart for bhx to look beyond Beijing. As with the UK there are rich pickings beyond the capital. Hangzhou will be a massive boost when we get it, but I am surprised that Shanghai is not mentioned. Suppose the CAAC want to control things very carefully....no doubt they have a plan!

BHX-Tehran ????????

After decades of frosty aviation relations, Iran and Britain have signed an agreement for up to six flights a day between the two countries - leading to speculation that Tehran airport could seize back its role as the express route to the Orient.

In the days when Abu Dhabi, Doha and Dubai were mere dusty refuelling stops for intercontinental jets, the Iranian capital was an aviation crossroads. Budget travellers seeking “bucket shop” tickets to the East would often find themselves changing planes at unearthly hours to reach Delhi, Bangkok and Tokyo.

Iran Air, the oldest airline in the Middle East, at one time held the record for the longest scheduled flight: over 12 hours from Tehran to New York JFK. But the 1979 revolution and international sanctions over nuclear capabilities put paid to Iran’s aviation ambitions. Flights from London continued, though for a time the airline was not allowed to refuel at Heathrow and needed to make an additional stop at Manston in Kent on the journey to Tehran.

At present the only onward destinations from Imam Khomeini airport of interest to British travellers are Beijing, Bombay and Kuala Lumpur. But with an order book for more than 200 new jets, permission to fly more frequently to Britain and dormant flying rights to many other Asian cities, Iran Air is back on course.

Meanwhile, British Airways has announced a return to the city to which it first flew 70 years ago, but which it axed in 2012. Starting shortly after the end of Ramadan in July, the airline will fly six times a week from Heathrow to Tehran, going daily from October. With return fares as low as £384 for the 5,500-mile round trip, BA is seeking to attract tourists to Iran. The Islamic Republic's London embassy re-opened last August, making it easier to get a visa. But the tourism infrastructure is flimsy, and UK travellers who subsequently wish to visit the US will find the process much tougher with evidence of a stay in Iran.

The Foreign Office also warns: “Homosexual behaviour, adultery and sex outside of marriage are illegal under Iranian law and can carry the death penalty.”

The travel writer, Tony Wheeler, says of his most recent visit: “I can’t remember the last time I was treated with such hospitality. While dining alone in restaurants, I’d regularly get invited over to join another table. By the end of my visit I had a collection of photographs with Iranian families who wanted me to join the family snapshot.”

It would be interesting to see Mahan back, especially with Turkmenistan going all 777 and the potential return of Uzbekistan.

In other news apparently Norwegian's next base will be Palma. I wonder if we're in with a shout?

Someone is having an interesting conversation on Twitter with Mr Kehoe.

Are we getting direct flights to China this year??

watch this space.

oooo sounds promising, anymore long haul flights in the pipeline for BHX?

again...... We are continuing to work hard in this area.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
