.........with Partner Airlines~~~~suggests to me that it shall be via other airports in UK and not necessarily from BHX ...I need not state the obvious!

I do hope to be pleasantly surprised though should Thomson manage to convince those Partner Airlines to operate these flights from Birmingham if demand is sufficient.

Just been reading on USA TODAY website that United and Delta have reduced winter schedules to UK including the reduction of United's Newark to Birmingham from 6 to 4 flights weekly.

United goes 5x weekly over winter with just Feb seeing 4x weekly. It's been like that for a few years so USA Today are a little behind on that one.

Sounds like USA today maybe trying to hint that it's because of Brexit? Yet it happens every year.

I dunno about United but in a press release last week that is exactly what Delta said when it reported a UK reduction on its services even though its MAN route like the BHX route was already reduced last year. This is scaremongering MAX and should stop. People know my thoughts on this and BREXIT should not have happened but companies blaming stuff on this is plain stupid and they should be challenged. It is far too early to know if we have suffered since the referendum result.

It's probably easier for them to blame brexit than actually have to explain the real reason which is that they believe demand drops in the winter and there are more lucrative winter routes they can deploy the aircraft on.
Plus they are american airlines so internal flights get a lot more demand during November to January due to Thanksgiving and Christmas so a lot of routes need bigger aircraft especially coast to coast routes.

Indeed, you make a very good point.

I agree with you partly. They must have been thinking of a reduction in service in the first place, Brexit gives them an excuse.

While we're still on the topic of United, I was reading a conversation on the Manchester forum about the unpopularity of the 757 with passengers. Many people specifically choose flights that use the 767 and A330 and the implication seems to be that flights become more popular when upgraded from the 757.

I must be unusual then in that I've always preferred narrow-bodied aircraft. If you are stuck in one of the middle row seats to me it's like riding in a lift. With narrow bodies your chances of getting a window seat or at least a seat near the window are much improved. IFE has little appeal to me. I prefer to look out of the window or read.

Then again the smaller the wide body the better I like it. I prefer the 777 over the 380.

United have indeed gone down to 4x weekly all winter (n)

You beat me to it,ive just posted on the United thread.
Even though a thumbs down from you, i do think we need to think ourselves lucky. One route has been suspended for the whole winter season, at least with the AA to JFK, we will still have very regular flights to the big apple even through this coming winter.

I do wonder if an airport like BHX would be better off just having 1 american airline doing a daily service all year round with an aircraft like a 767 A330 rather than 2 airlines with smaller aircraft constantly changing the ammount of weekly flights every year. At least BHX would have consistency all year round.

Has the recently added late evening SAS flight (SK2531) been quietly dropped? According to one website the most recent flight was on June 24.

It returns in September.

Scandinavia pretty much shuts down through July and August with lots of services seeing reductions.

They, the Scandinavians have shipped out to warmer shores. Personally, I would holiday year round in Norway, the top bit near the Russian border.

I detest the warm European climate. I am not being granny grumpy, it is simply a medical matter.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
