AA only have a seasonal Philadelphia to Glasgow, so at present UA are the only carrier on GLA-New York. Delta are coming in with a pretty short seasonal schedule and I thought two daily B752 to a B752 and A333 might be too great an increase in capacity given the competition from EDI. But then Virgin have brand recognition up there and widebody aircraft are more popular with passengers, so they might make it work.

I imagine any switch from Delta to Virgin on GLA/BHX would depend on pax numbers though.

Whilst AA,UA and DL have reasonably strong brands they can't compete with Virgin on a UK level. Maybe a frequent VS A330 to JFK is what's needed to stop lots of people travelling via LHR. People still do it for a number of reasons including to get on wide-body aircraft.

Hopefully DL will do well at both GLA and BHX ( when they do come) I'm sure they will given the strong outbound markets from both airports.

Potentially some very good news on the way (y)

Hopefully we'll hear something soon and it will be more than just a dream ;)

Yeah that sounds exciting mate. I feel BHX will get a couple of exciting things confirmed after the summer holidays. But lets not forget folks we still need to fill the planes we have for Summer 2016 so if you havent booked yet, get your finger out and get booking. Ex BHX of course :)

I know a lot of you are hoping for long haul, particularly to Asia, but personally I'd like to see a LCC serving city routes.

I know asking for another LCC sounds a little greedy after the amazing Jet2 announcement, but Jet2 are slightly different in that they're more focussed on service, and whilst they offer great value for money they're not particularly cheap (two very different things). Furthermore, for now at least, they're only serving sun routes.

I still feel there is a void left after the demise of bmibaby a few years ago. I flew to Amsterdam, Edinburgh and various other city break routes for £50 return. Now the only options are flag carriers or Flyne, both of which are expensive. As much as I love Flybe and think they're great in terms of frequencies and flight times for business customers, they don't come cheap.

So many people I know flying to destinations such as Glasgow, Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Milan and Berlin fly from London because it's much cheaper - purely because FR and EZY fly to these destinations from London at a much lower cost. I find it a little surprising as I would be very reluctant to travel down to London for such short flights, but when there is a family of 4 or a group of 6 friends travelling, for instance, that extra cost pp mounts up.

As much as I'd like to convince myself that we don't need EZY, they're probably the best fit for these routes, however I do sadly understand their reluctance to open a base at BHX. If these routes WERE to be served by a cheaper carrier, I'm sure passenger numbers would surprise us all, as it has done for Madrid; demand we didn't even know was there (or at least in such quantity) is causing seats to be filled no end.

Excited for the news any which way. :D

Hi there ray and all, I don't think I can contain the suspense any longer, is it delta, Finnair, tap, air China or even cathy pacific or even air newzealand, because if it's either one out of five, that's good, two out of five, that's even better, if it's three out five, that's brilliant, if it's four out five, that's tremendous or even five out of five, that monumental huge...Andyc

Potentially more long haul on the way, rumours suggest it's now when rather than if.

If true then it should be more than one route, although I'm not sure of exact details as yet.

Like I always say rumours, no matter how good the source, are just that until such time that it's confirmed by either the airport or the airline.

This is either Norwegian (but they are still having issues with the EU now getting involved taking the DOT to arbitration over their decision), or this is a transit flight?

"Buy on the rumour; sell on the news." The old share dealing saying. I suppose there is some similarity with aviation when rumours of new airlines/new routes finally come to fruition but then don't perform as hoped.

Not that this is likely to apply to anything at BHX which seemingly continues to go from strength to strength.

User001 - I was hoping for a big BHX announcement today but I guess we will have to wait a little while longer but it will be worth it !
Looks like BHX have won the race to get this one (BHX was always the favorite despite what other may have posted on FFA, BHX has so much potential and no competition)

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
