Certainly, but where? But if earlier suggestions of developments at MAN, EDI and BHX were correct, then i don't think we should be too downhearted. Going into MAN, they would be up against already fierce competition going west and with EDI the infrastructure there, from what i can gather, is none too brilliant and creaking. However, at BHX with an excellent terminal and some time and plenty of space to develop to take account of rising pax numbers, they could find a ready and capable home. Add to that transport links better than most other airports then it could be an excellent fit...

Seems there are plenty of new services somewhere in the pipeline, but does anyone know if any of these will only be possible because of the recent runway extension?

Interesting that there's a press release about Norwegian, now on the BHX official site; don't get excited, it's some dull stuff about business lounges - I just find the timing interesting as something somewhere has sparked a renewed interest in this airline on this forum. Have we all grabbed the wrong end of a (red) stick?

Isn't this what happened with the rumour last month?

I'm sure somebody mentioned a mega carrier coming in Etihad Thai or JAL?

Where are we with that one ?

I know we are impatient :)

It would explain a little if Mr F intimated whether this press release on the BHX official site was part of otherwise of his rumour source. Well Mr F?

I'm just checking, someone hasn't got their wires crossed have they?

What I mean is, while Norwegian are hopeful that they will start UK regional long haul next year, many people I've spoken to in the past few days since the rumour surfaced, said that Norwegian are holding off any announcement until the arbitration between the EU and US has been decided.

So, with the rumours, has someone been told 'keep an eye on the BHX website as I know there is an announcement due', only to find it's the (already known) lounge usage?

Norwegian will come, it's blindingly obvious, but Im just wondering in this individual circumstance, was it crossed wires. Wouldn't be the first or last time it's happened.

Etihad have been asking for quotes but no hint as of yet regarding a start date or aircraft type. Also Air New Zealand have been talking to BHX but they've been to many European airports so I wouldn't make too much of it.
Meanwhile someone has added Finnair - Helsinki from March 27th on to the BHX Wikipedia page ? !
No source given though :meh:

Hmm, Norwegian lounge access deal means wide bodies due? I do like the imagination of some.

For the record I mentioned the deal with No.1 Lounge on Monday, it also applies to LGW and EDI.

Unfortunately route development takes more than a month.

Talks with airlines take many years to come to fruition. Air India took 3 years followed by another 2 after a change of CEO. Jet2 took 5 years of talks to get to a base. It's not just BHX either, MAN took 5 years to get Cathay back and if you believe some they've been talking to Air China for a decade.

BHX are talking to airlines and some of them are big names, unfortunately you don't go to a meeting with Singapore then have the aircraft on the tarmac by the end of next week. It takes time and some of the names mentioned now may not turn in to actual services for several years, some of them may never happen at all. I don't like it anymore than anyone else but that's just the way it is.

I think from now on the best course of action for the future is just to wait for the official announcements.

You're absolutely right Ray about the time it can take from initial talks to flights being announced and starting, if indeed they ever do. At MAN, it took years I believe to get MAS in, and they've now gone of course. Out of interest, my understanding was that Hainan was always likely to be the first scheduled carrier to mainland China from MAN although no doubt the airport was talking to Air China as well.

On rare occasions, things can happen very quickly though.

CSA, BHX-Prague I believe happened very quickly but that aside always takes minimum 6-12 months and often as stated much longer ....

Some good points, I have a source at Manchester who said they were in deep discussion with ANZ. It turned out they were simply using MAN as a make weight to extract something from Heathrow!

Mr F, et al, I hope you took no criticism or scorn from my post as none was meant; I was questioning the fact that another poster had speculated an announcement from BHX today and we were probably all putting two and two together in hope that it was the announcement that you were cryptically alluding to, when it was in fact something quite different.

I'm sure your sources are impeccable as you are generally spot on and I for one would be desperately sad if you stopped feeding us little the snippets we crave like the big excitable kids that we are. Keep it up, Mr F...

I agree, keep up the good work Ray. This is a Rumour thread, from the barking mad rumours to the more realistic rumours but a rumour is a rumour. And even if the Norweigan news was something about the lounges at BHX, it created discussion and got us thinking.

Yes please Ray keep up the good work your invaluable to this forum mate.

Can everyone start being positive about BHX there is a lot of good stuff to come trust me just takes time but we are on a massive up and will only get better.

We have just had the best 12 months in the airports history!

Proud to be a Brummie and very proud of BHX as we finally begin our journey to get us where we always should have been...catching up yes but like a snow ball and it's getting faster, add HS2 and us having the biggest catchment area outside London, plus the London airports full, it all adds up to the perfect ingredients ...

Mr Beeth thank you Sir, I appreciate it.

Criticism does not bother me in the slightest, I do not post on here to try and gain peoples adulation, I enjoy discussing my local airport and hope from time to time to offer even a tiny bit to interested parties. It's clear from the comments that people do not believe the rumour and that is fine, everyone is perfectly entitled to their opinion and I would never try and change that, it's the reaction that has somewhat disappointed me.

Having a bit of free time I've been reading various threads on here and the difference in attitude is staggering. The rumour of an announcement at MAN has got people suggesting that MAN will challenge LHR as a UK hub (yes, someone actually suggested that), yet what I believe to be a credible rumour for Birmingham looks to have people falling over themselves to discourage it!

There is always a lot of negativity elsewhere but I thought that we were a fairly positive bunch on here, an exception to the norm when it comes to Birmingham. I guess old habits die hard :(

I'll say no more on the subject now.

Brum X, P.S. (y)

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
