Next winter is being loaded although not bookable yet.

No surprises that Birmingham gets nothing more than a carbon copy of this winter with absolutely nothing new, I suppose there is still time but I won't be holding my breath.

Or something like that:confused:

I seem to remember reading that Ryanair would start putting a clause in their tickets for after March 2019 stating something like if we cannot fly due to the UK not having sorted an "open skies" deal with the EU we won't be liable.

As Ray pointed out their are plenty of destinations Ryanair could serve from BHX that they already serve from other UK bases. With just 1 extra aircraft they could serve Lisbon and Valencia 4x weekly, and Bergamo, Riga and Seville 2x weekly.

Is Ryanair adding much at their other UK bases? If not then at least it isn't just a BHX thing.

All the new UK W18 routes added so far have been announced at "the other end" as they have been part of expansion in a foreign airport.

Only Manchester has seen a full S18 press release so far - and to be honest, if a season for a given UK airport is just more of the same then I don't see the point of a press release.

I think that Ryanair are very snugly in bed with the Manchester Airport Group (MAG - MAN, EMA and STN). They possibly get very favourable deals to keep as many flights as possible operating from MAG airports. The exceptions here would be the main sun destinations, where they know that the people of the West Midlands are less likely to travel to a MAG airport to fly. Therefore they operate these routes from BHX.
I would like to see MAG reviewed by the Competition and Markets Authority. BHX has competition from the two largest UK airports after LHR and LGW. These two MAG airports are approximately 100 miles north and south of BHX. Add to this, the busiest freight airport in the country (EMA), approximately 50 miles east. All three of these airports have a significant Ryanair presence.
BHX is undoubtably the hardist hit of UK airports, pretty much 'ringfenced' by MAG. If that's not 'anti-competitive', I don't know what is.

MAG sorted a deal with Ryanair for expansion but it seems that all BHX has to do is the same but for some reason isn't willing to do it. Any inquiry would look at this:

MAN competes with BHX, LBA, LPL and DSA
EMA competes with BHX, LBA and DSA
STN competes with LTN and LGW.

No grounds to uphold any complaint, In fact, would they not have flagged something up when MAN bought EMA? Or when MAN bought STN? They saw no issues then and would have no issues now. If MAG was so powerful, would they not have got Primera to start at EMA when they were discussing STN operations? That they chose BHX indicates there are no sweetheart deals being done to get any airline going to a single MAG airport to go to more than 1 MAG airport.

It does beg the question though whether the 3rd and 4th busiest airports in the country should be owned by the same company or whether investors who have a controlling interest in one airport should have large holdings in another especially bigger airports.
As for Ryanair they do seem to have an excellent relationship with MAG and are the biggest airline at all 3 formerly 4 of their airports. Whether this relationship has a detrimental effect on what they offer at other UK airports only they will know that.
With Primera from EMA it's quite possible MAG don't believe transatlantic will work from there si never chased it.

Not sure why you feel STN doesn't compete with BHX, there's a direct train from New St every hour to STN. Probably easier to get to than MAN on public transport. I know plenty of Brummies who use STN, easy driving distance also if you don't fancy the train.

Tell that to anybody stuck for ages on the A14 eastbound at Downham Market yesterday!!!!

Im told that train is typically £100 return, if you book 3 months in advance, and that’s only going as far as Cambridge. It’s really not a serious option for flying low budget.

I agree.

The train is ridiculously expensive along that whole line and seriously under capacity (a 2 carriage train, occasionally 3 carriages in rush hour) with frequent delays.
Half hourly to Leicester and hourly beyond that (to Stansted)
There are some good advance tickets to be had if you book far in advance on an off day. But anything else can soon get pricey.
Ironically Google suggests taking a Virgin train to London then Stansted express (it's even quicker and cheaper most of the time) than the direct train from New Street.

Once the A14 Huntingdon bypass scheme is finished improving journey times, I imagine Stansted will become more appealing to a lot of people from the Midlands, we know the train price is unlikely to decrease however in comparison.

Horrible flight to LPA with Ryanair yesterday hen party randomly seated around the aircraft shouting to each other blocking the aisle all English and obviously well oiled and even worse a few rows behind a group of middle aged men shouting and drinking bottles of spirits they had bought on board they suprisingly were not English/British
The cabin crew were asked to do something but were as much use as a chocolate teapot and basically disappeared luckily one lot are going to Playa de Inglis where its gay pride week the others Puerto Rico both really not my type of place and both are there for a week so will not be on our return flight. How do I know where they are going? well the whole flight knows.

I have emailed Ryanair and expect a deafening silence.

In further bad news we are also same booked on the same route same airline in October and to be fair Ryanair are normally pretty good and you get what you pay for but we definitely didn't pay to get what we got yesterday.

Sorry to hear this tale but may I beg to differ? You did I think get what you paid for i.e. airline indifference. That would not occur on a Lufthansa / Singapore flight that I know of. It's socially appalling and a tedious reflection of the curious mixture the UK carries nowadays of US influence and UK drinking genes. I'd definitely be looking to an alternative flight home. Good luck but do let us know now what the outcome is - this is drama! Wow what a site! :jawdrop:

Sorry to hear that, hopefully the return will be a better experience :(

I've never been to Gran Canaria but I was under the impression that Puerto Rico was more of a family orientated resort? We were looking at it as a potential destination for next year but with the kids still quite young I'd rather avoid the 'all day in the pub and chips with everything' crowd?

And enjoy Puerto Mogan.

Is La Caracola still there? We always had to book to get a meal there.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
