With Ryanair and Wizz pretty much holding steady, new services from Easyjet and Lauda along with Jet2s continuing expansion at least BHX has cause for optimism given the recent past. When you look at what's happening at Cardiff, Leeds, Belfast etc with loss of services it could be a lot worse and at least we are returning to growth.

BHX is still bookable from Jan at 3x weekly on a FAO based aircraft so hopefully nothing is going to change.
I have no knowledge to back this up but is suspect Ryanair's current routes from BHX are cash cows.Nothing changes.Same routes operating every year. The odd increase on these routes, few cut backs and nothing in the way of new routes.Very unlike Ryanair.
But you know what?In the current situation i will settle for that.

S20 is starting to be loaded.

Porto is bookable still at 2x weekly.

Warsaw is bookable still at 3x weekly and will be operated by Ryanair Sun.

Gdansk (Sun) and Krakow (Mon) are partially loaded to also be operated by Ryanair Sun. I assume the other flights will be BHX based aircraft as they are not showing yet.

Ryanair have a press release out today saying that S20 is now on sale from the UK.

I really hope that they mean the UK except for BHX and there is more to be added as there are massive cuts if not.
I've been looking at Cardiffs with the app and it seems to be glitching showing the dates beyond April. You have to do the dates twice to get the full summer.

Not getting the razors out just yet as some routes like Madrid are away based so probably not part of UK s20.

As things stand though there's a huge loss of capacity from various UK airports to the Canaries, Girona, Malta and Murcia, which seems insane to me given the demise of TCX.

I've tried but it's not working for me, there are still a massive amount of BHX routes not bookable past March.

The 737 MAX issues must have hit them very hard. They also have ever increasing employee relation problems and have initiated a kinder
Ryanair advertising campaign that has largely failed.
They are still the kings of spin but i a not sure how comfortable airports where they have a large presence are feeling.

Just looked at East Midlands which seems to be OK into the summer but as Ray says big gaps for BHX, nothing for Canary Islands for example, yet full programme for East Midlands. Not looking good

Hi there Ray and all, looking at those 91 routes that have been lost over the years, I have forecasted that at least 44 routes have a potential to bring in 2,950,000 if brought back by either easyJet, Jet2, ryanair, wizz air, blue air, lufthansa, Brussels Air, sas. Just to name a few... Andyc

An interesting theory in trying to link lost routes with 'potential' passengers, but i think it is flawed, most notably on the fact that when those flights ceased to be available people did not then book on flights which were current at the time and, possibly, still available. For example when Norway ceased to be available maybe people chose another destination in northern Europe rather than travel to an airport where Norway was available. And i am sure there are more other examples.

So, I doubt that losing those routes was a net loss to the airport, it would be a figure somewhere between 0 and 2,950,000. My guess is the figure would be much closer to the former rather than the latter.

Indeed.

Certainly for destinations in Europe when people are looking at holidays they'll likely probably look to see where's cheap from their local airport and book based off of that.

If they have a particular destination in mind, if their local airport doesn't serve it are they more likely to look at flying there from another more distance airport or just look at a different destination altogether?

looking at those 91 routes that have been lost over the years

I'm sorry but where did 91 come from? I'm sure the list Ray posted on the other thread had just over 20. Even with a few being missed I think almost 100 lost routes is a bit of an over-exaggeration.

Hi there Coat hanger16, this fiqure was quoted by matt995, not myself, look under lost routes where you will find what matt995 quoted.

has anyone else noticed that when you go into the Ryanair website that both Shannon and Cork appear ay Ryanair route but dates don't show?

Although the rest of the UK seems to be bookable and Ryanair have issued a press release stating such, when you go through the schedule it kind of indicates that BHX is still be worked upon.

I'd like to think that such a devastating amount of cuts couldn't come all at once but then I think, this is BHX. We'll see what happens.

As it stands.

Sofia - Not bookable past March.
Perpignan - Not bookable.
Chania - Not bookable.
Corfu - Not bookable.
Verona - Back to 2x weekly for summer.
Malta - Not bookable.
Bydgoszcz - Not bookable.
Gdansk - Stays 2x weekly.
Katowice - Stays 2x weekly.
Krakow - Only Monday bookable.
Warsaw - Remains 3x weekly.
Porto - Remains 2x weekly.
Bratislava - Not bookable.
Madrid - Not bookable.
Girona - Not bookable.
Reus - 2x weekly.
Fuerteventura - Not bookable.
Gran Canaria - Not bookable.
Ibiza - Not bookable.
Lanzarote - Not bookable.
Murcia - Not bookable.
Tenerife - Not bookable.

They appeared earlier this year when we had a short series of flights for the rugby and have remained ever since.

Given the recent news about Ryanair pilots being asked to either move to overseas bases, take unpaid leave or face being laid off, a cutback of this scale wouldn't come as a surprise. This article specifically mentions Stansted and Manchester so at least it's not just Birmingham (https://www.theguardian.com/busines...ilots-to-transfer-overseas-or-face-job-losses)

I'm hoping any cuts by Ryanair are purely due to the troubles with the 737 MAX and that once its back in service Ryanair reinstates any routes they end up cutting.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
