Sir Raymond!

Agreement in Principal? May I degenerate this forum for this one post only by saying that such responses are media fodder, meaningless claptrap and worthy of the late Kenny Everett?

I suggest they cannot do it with current model because passengers would not tolerate the European business model.

Using the Piggyback model could damage both parties.

I am sorry but I am on my third glass of Port so if I make no logic or common sense, I beg forgiveness.

This is probably the first time we've seen FR really go after Jet2 at their foundations and at the new base. The one advantage that Jet2 has over Ryanair, and its massive advantage, is it's package holiday business. I hope both make a massive success of GRO however i do see one pulling out - or decreasing their offering.

As for the increases on the "standard bucket/spade" markets - BHX must welcome them as it is a strong performer especially with Turkey Tunisia and Egypt taking a turn. Ryanair really have just positioned themselves to take a massive advantage of the tide which is turning/has turned. Wonder you really have to wonder what Jet2's presence and Ryanair's growth is going to do for Monarch? (and what if Norwegian had joined in?)

NB- Side not - wonder what position Ryanair would be in had that gone into the Turkey holiday market?

Norwegian seem to be a bit of a 'will they, won't they' at the moment. With news of them setting up a new HQ at LGW it seems that they haven't abandoned the UK altogether so we'll see.

Monarch have a pretty loyal following, although their prices can be ridiculous at times. Their 738 seat maps have appeared sporadically on various booking engines, although the Monarch website still shows all Airbus.

The one to watch could well be Vueling. They've quietly built up their four routes and there are various rumours of quite a bit more to come for 2017.

Interesting times.

Ryanair doing longhaul would be interesting! And as for Vueling considering their shortage of aircraft and crews they may just consolidate for S17 with the odd extra flight here and there.

OK, What exactly do Ryanair offer other than a cheap bus fare to the sun? I see no collaboration with any of the mainline carriers to connect with the thwarted world that Ryanair cannot penetrate.

The business model of low cost carriers has always been 'point to point' traffic. Whilst interlining suits full fare airlines in feeding passengers onto their lucrative long haul services, this would have prohibitive costs for the Loco's.
Things could change in the future, but setting up interline agreements, access to booking systems, baggage transfer and slots into overcrowded major hubs would incur major financial outlay for a low cost carrier.

Cheap bus fare flights to the sun and links to smaller airports, often many miles from the stated served city (for low landing fees), is where these airlines make their money.

Regards

Kevin

According to this article, Kenny Jacobs of Ryanair is quoted as saying "We're the second biggest airline in Birmingham so we want to build on that."

https://www.insidermedia.com/insider/midlands/ryanair-reveals-new-birmingham-schedule

Is this true? Is this based on seats offered or actual passenger statistics? I was not aware and thought #1 was Flybe with Monarch being #2. Does anyone have any information or statistics they could enlighten me with regarding this?

Side note: the "we want to build on that" fills me with hope. Perhaps there is more to come.

In terms of seats offered/pass angers carried, RYR is indeed the 2nd largest airline at BHX after BEE. MON is 3rd as their capacity reduces much more significantly than RYR over winter.

Back to four based for S17 although there doesn't seem to be any losses. Loads more away based flights though.

Corfu has a weekly flight (Sat) in April before going 2x weekly in May, I don't think we had anything in April this year?

From the dried fruit forum!
Ryanair to re-commence Porto twice weekly from 26th March 2017 a lovely city good to see it back! Bookable now Wed and Sun:) Wednesday is based Sunday looks to be away based.

I have been to Oporto twice a lovely city and the coast is beautiful and unspoilt too. I seem to remember reading it did well in terms of load factor for FR and BE but we don't know about yield? As jfy1999 says lets hope it stays this time :)

Great to see Porto back on the boards. I could be wrong but I wonder if MON had been planning on launching Porto from BHX along with LTN and MAN? Given their strategy at BHX these days is retaliation against other carriers it seems a coincidence that Ryanair have announced this just a week later. Perhaps MON heard FR were going to fight back and had second thoughts? Not that it really matters.

I'm not sure, as Monarch have launched MAN-OPO against Easyjet who are established on the route, as well as MAN-ARN against Norwegian and SAS, so, they can't be that afraid of competition?

I don't think that there are enough gaps in the Monarch schedule even if they wanted to. There are the odd one or two but they are usually filled with extra frequencies on the sun routes. ARN came in a 3x weekly but Nice dropped by two weekly. Maybe things could be adjusted somehow but at the moment it seems as if any new ZB routes would require a 10th based (which has been rumoured).

I've said it before and I'll say it again but I still can't fathom why no one has tried Pisa again....perhaps one for Jet2 in the future? Bologna would also be nice.

But surely, before all these let's see a return of Bergamo. In effect Bergamo is Milan and a major business and industrial city but one which also has the advantage of being close to the lakes. RY ran it once and while i clearly did not know the yield, it was very popular.

But the general thrust of what the previous two posters have indicated is that RY offers very little from BHX. It's about time they added a few more destinations.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
