They dont...I know Ezy do ATHENS from Manchester and Agean does too....so that's probably enough capacity from the NW. Maybe they will move the route....have to wait and see. Where ever they add from Liverpool it's good news for sure.

Easyjet announced today it celebrates 20 years at its Liverpool base. They will base an 8th aircraft at Liverpool Airport next summer with new routes planned for then. New service to Venice begins on Tuesday. When Easyjet came to Liverpool in 1997 it was an airport of 700,000 per annum, they were instrumental in increasing the passenger through put with today Liverpool catering with around 5 million passengers a year.

Thats one hell of a drop lol from 700k a year to 5k. Presume the latter is m rather than k

Do you have a wish list?

I think more Ger
Do you have a wish list?

I think Zurich would be good, there were also a number of routes which were well supported and were transferred to Manchester, Gibraltar for example, so a reintroduction of a route like that would be welcome and a likely success. Germany is not well served from Liverpool so some links to there would be nice to see.

The normal summer sun destinations are well supported from Liverpool and many could do with more capacity as load factors are very high, so some of the same is needed too. I think this won't have gone unnoticed by Blue Air either.

I know how instrumental EasyJet has been in developing Liverpool over the years - alongside Ryanair - but I wonder just how much the airport has benefitted in recent years from their presence.

The early days saw EasyJet using Liverpool to compete with MAN to provide the lowest possible cost flights and it was backed up by having a significant part to play on the TV documentary series 'Airline', which certainly boosted the airport's profile. However, after Manchester opened their doors to the Locos, EasyJet did not do Liverpool any favours, expediting a 24% collapse in passenger numbers from over 5 million in 2011 to less than 4 million by 2014. The historically important routes to Ireland and Isle Of Man have equated to roughly 1.5m passengers per year for some time meaning that, in 2014, EasyJet and Ryanair only really contributed an extra 2.5m passengers. The vast majority of growth since 2014 has come from Blue and Wizz. When it's put into that context, it can be argued that EasyJet's recent contribution has actually been extremely disappointing.

That said, EasyJet - along with all their competitors at Liverpool - still maintains a reasonably healthy programme of year round flights and, though frequencies obviously change, it is nice to see such commitment to the Winter schedule and, after such a dismal spell, a more settled approach to Liverpool airport in general.

I think its true to say the both EZY and FR have been not as supportive in LPL in the recent past and either moving flights to Manchester or launching new ones from there with very little attention paid to their LPL base. This is of course disappointing given than many of EZY and FR routes are very well supported and enjoy high load factors and indeed Liverpool Airport in now back to the 5 million passenger mark. Hopefully there is a change at heart now from them both, however It is also most welcome to see growth from Wizz and Blue Air, who have put their faith behind their Liverpool operations.

I have also heard suggested on more than one occasion that both Easyjet and Ryanair are the main reason why Jet2 has not launched services from Liverpool.

Well they go up against them at other airports so why not LPL?

I don't think easyjet does Leeds it's Ryanair and Jet2 there which would be comparable size airport to LPL. To be fair I don't know why they haven't maybe they feel threatened by long standing incumbents. Blue Air and Wizz don't however.

The same thing is often suggested about Bristol where easyJet and Ryanair have bases, Carl.

I'm not privy to any official reasoning behind Jet2's apparent decision not to use Liverpool but I think the Easyjet product is a lot closer aligned to Jet2 with products like it's easy holiday brand. So Jet2 probably see them as the main threat there.

What is the point of diluting your MAN product when they can commute to MAN similar to Yorkshire folk to MAN for TUI (even with 3 based aircraft in the Yorkshire region). Look at the 3 big tour operators, none have a base at LPL and only 1 of the 3 operates a handful of flights to destinations where it is high volume delivering consistently high results due to the British demand to that destination (PMI).

Is it really diluting the Manchester product when a decent number of the passengers using Easyjet will be from the Liverpool area? I'm aware that some routes will only work from a small number of airports in the North and Manchester is probably the obvious airport to serve weaker routes from but sufficient growth should still be achievable from the airlines Liverpool base. #easyjet

To give passengers choice, rather than trying to force people. Jet2 used fly from Blackpool so they couldn't have been too worried about dilution.
Also remember people from Manchester and further afield also fly from Liverpool.

Jet2 flew from BLK but offered only capacity on those trunk routes. Also BLK was set up the days of small bases with small aircraft. At the current pace of expansion and level i would say LPL is off the base list. (I do not see a 4 aircraft base at LPL).

I don't know whether I have misread your post but easyJet have publicly stated that they will have 8 aircraft - up by 1 from 2017 - based in 2018.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
