Primarily a Friday and Saturday night thread for people to discuss their favourite tipples. Their latest Gin or Whisky collection or maybe the local ale.

I tried Dry January a few years back and to be honest I didn’t notice a difference so I determined I probably don’t drink enough in the first place!

Besides, with all that is going on in the world at the moment we need some pleasures.

I hope is everyone is doing OK.

Exactly!

I was in the local Co-Op this evening to get some food and a few beers. The lady in front of me at the check out had a bottle of Cava. The guy who was serving (I know him well enough to have a joke with - it's a small village and many people know each other), was teasing her about it. She replied that 'she was bored and that was her excuse'. As she turned to leave I said that I thought her excuse was perfectly valid. She replied 'and I don't have to get up in the morning'.
There aren't many pleasures left at the moment. An enjoyable drink being one of the few.

Enjoyable being the point, I am restricted to good ales and beers just now and I enjoy not having a headache next morning, something spirits and good wines tend to inflict upon me and not compatible with my medication. As Inspector Morse once said, beer is pure food.

Perhaps to assist Sir Raymond, this thread might be frozen until 00:01,, 1st February so as to avoid triggering a relapse! We can then all drink a toast to the chap....deservedly.

Thank you for your kind concern Madam Jenny but it's really not necessary to lock the thread. I'm happy to read about what others are enjoying and look forward to doing the same in a couple of weeks :)

Likewise I can't say that I feel any different so despite my alcohol consumption going up whilst working from home I've come to the same conclusion. I'm sure that on some level it's doing me a bit of good.

,.......and that will be the next restriction, a ban on alcohol sales, supposedly to protect NHS from the criminal consequences of drunkenness, public disorder etc., Closing the bars will not be enough for some so other outlets may be targeted for temporary closure.

Time to restock the cellar perhaps?

I hope not. My comment wasn't meant to be taken seriously but you never know...................

Well my abstinence lasted a total of 17 days, which could be worse I suppose.

My little sister got engaged so ended up having a few glasses of Prosecco to celebrate via Zoom.

Might as well continue now, in the kitchen there's a bottle of Malbec with my name on it.
That's both 'oh dear' and 'hooray' at the same time!
I hope you get to attend the wedding (COVID and all that). If you do, I'm sure there will be a few more drinks to be had.

Kevin

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
