On a visit to Multiflight cafe this morning, the big news was the fact that Heilds Aviation, long established at Sherburn, are to open a flying school at LBA using the former PTT offices.

A note on the door of the offices announces the company will commence operations, maybe as early as next week using R.44 and Bell 505 helicopters initially. A brend new Bell 505 is expected to be delivered to LBA by the end of January.

Fixed wing aircraft will join the club for PPL training and eventually it is hoped to carry out CPL training also. It is rumoured that DA.40 aircraft will be used initially.

This is all of course subject to CAA approvals being obtained.

So all in all, good news and it will be good to see the southside of the airport once gain being more active.

Still no sign of much happening with the new flying school.

However, Bob Hield made a shjort visit yesterday afternoon in R.44 G-LLIZ.
Also the company mentioned in their original notice that they would have a Bell 505 delivered by the end of January.
Nothing has arrived, but on 14/1 a Bell 505, G-CLCP was registered to an owner in Thorner, Leeds 14.

Just seen that Multiflight have announced that Heilds Aviation have officially opened for business at Leeds/Bradford Airport. Great to see the fixed wing and helicopter flight training facility reopen at the airport after the demise of PPT Aviation.

WELCOME TO HIELDS AVIATION!

Established Yorkshire flight training company Hields Aviation has opened a new fixed wing and helicopter flight training facility here on the Multiflight site at Leeds Bradford Airport.

The new flight training facility opened its doors this week, next door to the Multiflight Café.

Hields Aviation, which was established by Robert Hields in 1989, has a base at Sherburn in Elmet Airfield providing helicopter flight training, helicopter charter brokerage and helicopter pleasure flying. The new Leeds facility will offer helicopter and fixed wing flight training.

Arriving soon at the Leeds facility will be a brand new Bell 505 helicopter and fixed wing training will be given on two Cessna 172 Skyhawk’s.

“We are delighted to open a new flight training base at Multiflight at Leeds Bradford Airport and are looking forward to offering the same high standards as at our Sherburn in Elmet Airfield base,” said Robert.

“We have had a tremendous amount of interest in our new Leeds base and are really excited to get started here.”

Steve Borrowdale, Managing Director of Multiflight, said: “We are delighted to welcome Hields Aviation to the Multiflight site and wish Robert and his team all the best with the new flight training facility.”

As predicted a few months ago the Bell 505 G-CLCP is the aircraft to be operated by Hields Aviation.
It arrived at LBA a few weeks ago in "kit" form and following assembly made its first flight late morning today.

In fact as I type this it is going off for another test flight(1450)

Hields Aviation have now issued the following press release on its facebook page.

HIELDS AVIATION HAVE TAKEN OVER LEEDS AIRPORT FLYING SCHOOL
This establishment will be re-opening as a new flying training school within the next few weeks.

The premises have been taken by the Hields family, (Hields Aviation), one of the longest established helicopter training schools in the United Kingdom, specialising in helicopter tuition on both piston, and gas turbine machines, for both private and commercial helicopter licences.

Hields Aviation will still be primarily based at Sherburn Aerodrome, near Leeds, for quality helicopter tuition only, but the new facility at this airport will be extended for fixed-wing training, initially for the training of private pilots, and eventually for the issuing of commercial airline licences.

Mr and Mrs Hields, (Robert and Samantha), are looking forward to hearing from potential new students, friends and existing pilots, and anyone interested in aviation who may wish to contact us, or simply say hello! We are also in the process of sourcing suitable aircraft for the aeroplane tuition, and would be interested to chat with any existing owners at Leeds who may be interested in a long-term leasing agreement.

The helicopter school at Leeds will be offering quality tuition on the Robinson R44, four seat helicopter, and the exciting new Bell 505 gas turbine, glass cockpit, machine. The new 505 will be based at LBA, and should arrive later this month, March 2019.

Shortly after G-CLCP returned having landed at Sherburn, it was followed by another of the type registered 2-BELL.
Both aircraft went to Multiflight/Central apron

Second Cessna 172S G-FLKY entered service this morning with the flying school

When was the last time multi east hangar was open? Not seen them open for ages, are Hields taking it over?

Both of Hield's Leeds based fixed wing aircraft are for sale.
Could this mean the end of their Leeds operation ??

Their other former resident G-FLKY was sold earlier and now lives at Cork

Another Cessna 172 G-ROLY arrived from Netherthorpe yesterday and is now registered to Hields.

I hope that Multiflight also take the opportunity to give the cafe a damn good clean as well. It really is quite mucky and with cobwebs all over the shop looks like it hasn't been properly cleaned for 10 years.

Opening Update

Dear students and Customers,
We hope you are well and looking forward to flying with us again in the next few weeks!

We would like to confirm that both Leeds Bradford and Sherburn sites will reopen on Monday 12th April.

Leeds Bradford site:
Will be limited opening hours initially, due to lack of holiday traffic and will only be open on a Monday & Friday 9am- 5pm until 23rd April. From the 24th April we will be open 7 days a week 9am - 5 pm.
But from Mid May (awaiting dates) we hope to be fully operational again 7 days a week, when the airport reopens fully. I

Sherburn Site:
Operational hours as normal 7 days per week 8am- 9pm .
I have adjusted the booking system to accommodate the reduced hours for Leeds site.

We would appreciate all students arrive on time for their slots, if they arrive late then it is possible they will miss the opportunity to fly on that day. As we have limited flying time for the first few weeks we would appreciate full co-operation from students snd customers and give us notice if they need to cancel their slot to allow it to be passed to another student.
We will be open for Groundschool and exams by prior notice, I suggest all those of you who still have exams to complete use this down time to complete what you can, so we can all focus on getting back in the air as soon as possible.
Please call Sam if you have any questions about booking In 0113 898 0457.
We look forward to seeing you from the 12th April onwards.

Regards
Sam & Rob

according to some people, you only need 1 day in each of the Yorkshire Dales, North Wales and Lake District "to have seen it all". Which is why its minibus tour number 3 this year of the Yorkshire Dales for me on 16th October. Different routes and different things to see each tour.
Apologies for any issues today, I was planning on updating the site but sadly something went wrong so the upgrade has been postponed. Apologies again for any inconvenience caused.

Thank you for your kind donation to our running costs Jenny.
I've done 2 minibus tours with Mountain Goat this week. Monday was North York Moors with over 600 photos and today High Adventure in the Lakes with 750. photos. Slightly snap happy.
I've asked Gareth Southgate for the winning lottery numbers. He said 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6
