Nice to see they have acknowledged it. The news section on their website still leading with new currency exchange facilities which nobody would touch with a barge pole unless desperate. Ho Hum. Still some way to go.

Thanks Ian.Excuse my ignorance but does ths mean the BHX pr dept.has ignored the launch of a potentially daily service by a flag carrier to an important European capital city? Is this because as there are now 2 airlines serving the route and the airport and is so lacking in self confidence that it is terrified of possibly upsetting the other.

I think you are a bit harsh there 58 terminus why only today BHXs commercial director announced that Travel Ex have opened 15 ATMs and have a click and collect service for foreign currency at bargain rates, well he didn't actually say the last bit he probably forgot to mention any new services or any sign of solving the Cat 3 ILS problem but hey ho.

Maybe it will be next week as many Austrians remain on holiday ....Monday is also a Cathelic holiday in Europe so if BHX are to do a press release my bet is next Tuesday onwards

Better late than never. Just need Jet2 Lisbon and Aegean to follow

AUSTRIAN AIRLINES LAUNCHES NEW ROUTE FROM BIRMINGHAM AIRPORT

Austrian Airlines has become Birmingham Airport’s newest airline, with direct scheduled services to the Austrian capital of Vienna and onward connections across Asia and Europe.

Austrian Airlines is part of the Lufthansa Group, which forms part of the wider Star Alliance group and joins six Star Alliance airlines which already operate from Birmingham Airport. These airlines include Air India, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa, SAS, SWISS and Turkish Airlines.

The new service improves the choice of connections for passengers travelling to Asia, particularly those looking for services to Beijing and Tokyo. Closer to home, Austrian Airlines now provide greater onward connectivity to many capital cities such as Budapest, Sofia and Zagreb, as well as popular destinations in Central and eastern Europe, plus regional connections to Graz, Innsbruck and Klagenfurt.

Launched on the 1st January, the winter schedule operates four-weekly service on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. From the summer, this will increase to a daily schedule.

The flights will depart from Vienna at 11:05 hours, arriving at Birmingham Airport at 12:30 hours. Flights will then depart from Birmingham Airport at 13:15 hours, arriving in to Vienna at 16:35 hours.

Vienna is a destination, boasting an abundance of imperial architecture, a vast range of museums and coffee shops, and is often referred to the ‘City of Music’. The city has much to offer those travelling in both the summer and winter, with the winter markets taking place in November through to December, along with temperatures in summer months reaching highs of 27 degrees.

Tom Screen, Aviation Director at Birmingham Airport, said: “We are delighted to welcome Austrian Airlines first flight to Vienna. With services initially operating four times a week Austrian Airlines will then grow to daily flights by summer 2020 and we look forward to welcoming yet another Star Alliance carrier to Birmingham Airport which will provide more choice to onward destinations across Asia and Eastern Europe.”

Andreas Otto, Chief Commercial Officer at Austrian Airlines, said: “We are very pleased about the launch of our Birmingham-Vienna route. Passengers will benefit from a closer connection to our hub and an increased number of flights.”

The Austrian Airlines service, which will replace the current point to point Eurowings flights, will be operated by an Embraer 195 aircraft. The aircraft is equipped with comfortable double seating.

I don't know if this link will work but it shows the scene at Vienna I think where the Austrian fleet is grounded.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
