Blue Islands Returns To Birmingham

Blue Islands will resume it's operations from Birmingham on 31st August.

15:10 SI 2277 - Departs Mon, Wed & Fri.
14:20 SI 2271 - Departs Sun

Blue Islands seem to have reviewed their network after receiving funding from the Jersey government and have gone through a rebirth, great to see that Birmingham will be served again and they have even unveiled a slick new website.

Just seen this tweet and news story about a new collaboration between Blue Islands & Loganair. It is a great idea to try and bring the cost of domestic travel down.

Birmingham is set to be a beneficiary as the agreement will allow those arriving from Jersey to travel onwards up to Aberdeen & Inverness with a single ticket and vice versa.

Blue Islands launches Birmingham to Jersey service

Yes, I agree. It is a drive from hell so flying would be a holiday itself.

Just out of interest I looked at the airlines serving NQY. It might be feasible for one of them to serve BHX-NQY on a W-pattern. If not Blue Islands flying JER-BHX-NQY-BHX-JER, an alternative might be Eastern Airways from Aberdeen, Leeds Bradford or Teesside flying XXX-NQY-BHX-NQY-XXX. The above is just my personal speculation though - I don’t know if any airline is actually planning BHX-NQY.

Newquay has been a much used seasonal route from BHX for many years. British Midland operating it from the 1970's . It certainly cuts out a sometimes traumatic journey to Cornwall. Blue Islands does seem the most likely carrier suitable. Loganair might be an outsider, using BHX as a stop-off from Scotland or a W pattern perhaps?.

Yet the journey by way of land transport alone or with an irritable family in tow, pit stops and other drivers or train overcrowding, the idea of flying becomes attractive. I used to endure a weekly Redditch to St. Austell road courier trip transporting legal documents between chambers as email did not yet exist and a whole day is lost to other tasks. The idea of flights would have been utilized without question as costs would have been recovered in due course.
