Several USAF C17 aircraft landed in Kuwait yesterday, presumably with refugees. Possibly the Turkish is B77W is bringing some here .

Says arrival 11:28 but not on the map. The Condor one from Dubai is on the map if that makes a difference?

It should reappear on the map soon. That part of eastern Turkey is always a dark spot for flightradar.

Some slightly different movements today with a Privilege 767-300 due in this morning from Toronto, a 2Excell 737-300 from Lasham and a Titan A321 from Stansted to Budapest. The GA area looks particularly busy today.

Regular passengers movements (in and out)scheduled today total around 130.

Gainjet not seen at BHX for a long time now. They seem to have moved some of their larger aircraft to Shannon, Irish Republic. Possibly to do with Brexit, as Greek owned.

Cargologic appear to have a B737 freight flight from BHX to LUX on 3rd Sept, departing BHX at 1430. No arrival time was given. Info from CAA article 250 applications.

I'm just watching FR24 and BHX has 3 aircraft on approach, a KLM B737-800 (great to see them using the 737 again) and 2 IMX ATR-72's. All 3 aircraft have flown a circuit to the south of BHX, rather than a straight in approach. There is nothing showing as 'active' on the ground and there have been no recent departures. Does anyone know why they have done this?

I noticed it with the evacuee flights. Looking at their speed/height on FR24, they appeared to be too fast/high. I put it down to unfamiliarity with BHX.

At this time of night, it could be runway inspection. Extra care being taken since the "steps" incident....

Will ask my pilot friend for his thoughts.

I don't think it will be anything to do with unfamiliarity. Professional Pilots will often fly into unfamiliar airports and the Standard Arrivals (STARS) procedures for all runways at the destination will be programmed into the Flight Management Computer (FMC), prior to departure. So departure from the published approach/glideslope would be unusual (Mahan Air A310's being the exception).

The majority of aircraft flying into BHX from the South fly what is called a Grove arrival, specifically the Grove 1C. Grove is the final waypoint on this arrival routing.

The 1C brings aircraft in from the direction of Northampton to the beacon at Honiley. From here they are radar vectored (given headings by atc) to the ILS.

If landing on RWY 15, they are turned north and fly over the city. If however they are landing on RWY 33, making a turn to the north to line up with the runway is too sharp to make given how close they are, hence they make a turn to the south and "loop" around.

Worth remembering that most of the arrival and departure routings in the UK were designed well over 50 years ago.

Couple years ago I was flying Birmingham to Dalaman with Tui near the end of the season. I think around 90 pax on board so it was a spacious flight. The captain was very jovial and spent a lot of time talking over the PA. He said if we had pen and paper we could write down questions for the flight crew and they would answer them over the PA. Never had that before, but didn't miss the chance to pose some questions. One of these was the question which airport is the most difficult to fly into on the Tui network.....was expecting Funchal. The answer was surprisingly for me...BHX. The reason given that it's obviously a crosswind airport, but also that they have to come in very high over London and descend very fast to make it into BHX.
Just thought I'd add that snippet.
