Government’s infrastructure plans a missed opportunity for Leeds/Bradford Airport’s new £150 million terminal development

The Prime Minister’s plans for what he describes as shovel-ready infrastructure sound dynamic enough. However, if he is serious about it then he must help get planning approval by Labour run Leeds City Council for Leeds Bradford Airport’s £150 million terminal development quickly.

This new terminal development will very quickly generate hundreds of highly skilled construction jobs across the Leeds City Region. It will help with getting more young people into apprenticeships; this will also be underpinned by the airport introducing more new job roles starting in the terminal once construction is finished in 2023.

As promised this new Terminal can be delivered with sustainability at its heart – setting new world-leading standards for an airport on air quality, noise and carbon reduction, at a time when pressure on the aviation industry is damaging the UK economy.

LBA support Group: “We welcome the PM’s announcement today by investing in public infrastructure, but if confidence and growth is to return to our economy and if the Government is serious about the Northern Powerhouse, then Leeds Bradford Airport’s new terminal must be also part of those plans, alongside new regulations on air quality and decarbonisation.

The Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government (currently Robert Jenrick) could 'call in' the LBA planning application and make the decision himself instead of leaving it to the local authority.

Recent Conservative secretaries of state have usually been reluctant to do so, preferring to leave the matter in locally elected hands, and anyway calling in the application only usually occurs if it conflicts with national policy in important ways, or is nationally significant.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
