Delta Airlines has announced that they are to suspend their Manchester - New York service because of low yields.

Yet another long haul reduction for Manchester.

I think I am right in saying that this only leaves the twice daily Continental flights to Newark.

I find it worrying that MAN is losing all this traffic, i fear that when it goes no airport is going to be able to pick it back up again.

I suppose its the downside of the growth in regional low cost airtravel, eroding at Manchesters critical mass and replacing flag carriers with lo-co airlines...

Am i right in thinking that American Airlines are coming in to replicate the route openeing left by Delta to New York JFK? I think they plan to operate the service using a Boeing 757-200WL from next May.

[textarea]Manchester Airport proves saviour for Delta flight

Manchester Airport welcomed an unexpected flight to its runway this morning (September 23rd), after a Delta flight from New York was forced to make an emergency landing.

The New York to Athens flight landed at Manchester at 04:24 BST today (September 23rd) after the pilots reported a smell of smoke in the cockpit.

Over 200 passengers and crew are being put up in Manchester Airport hotels while they wait for another aircraft to take them on to Athens.

However, strikes by air traffic controllers in France means they will not reach Greece until Friday (September 24th).

France's Direction Generale d'Aviation Civile has asked airlines to cut by half the number of flights going into the country.

Despite the smoky odour, engineers have checked the plane over and found nothing wrong with the Boeing 767.

"As a precaution, the crew chose to divert to Manchester, UK. After landing, the customers deplaned normally and Delta maintenance personnel inspected the airplane to determine the cause of the incident," a spokesman for the airline told the Manchester Evening News

I heard this on the radio yesterday lunch time. It said the plane took off again safely with all the passengers aboard.

Delta will upgrade there DL64/65 ATL-MAN-ATL service from a Boeing 767-300 to an airbus A330-200 from march 2013. :good:

Is the A330 really classed as an upgrade. The Boeing 767-300 is virtually the same size as an A330-200 isn't it, or at least there wont be much in it?

The Delta A332 & 763ER config's:

A330-200

J32    Y+30   Y177   Total = 239

767-300ER

J36 Y+29 Y143 Total = 208
J31 Y179 Total = 210
J32 Y179 Total = 211
J30 Y+38 Y144 Total = 212
J26 Y+29 Y171 Total = 226

Yes your right Aviador not much in it really. Maybe cargo has a part to play?

It's still not as good as the Days of the MD-11 or 777!! In 2009 i traveled on the 767-400ER on ATL- MAN so there still slighty down on capacity.

:s_crazy

Its more a 'comfort upgrade'. The B767-300's are getting a bit worn internally, while the A330 fleet is rather 'new' inside.

Fair comment, so a comfort upgrade then. The majority of people wont notice any difference.

It could also be a case of efficiency..

Are there any differences between the B767 or the A330's fuel consumption, operational fees etc..?

Delta will once again use the A330-200 at Manchester.

From 28th October, it will be used for the winter season to Atlanta.

Winter bookings must be good for Delta at Manchester, because, as well as remaining daily (usually drop to 5 weekly), they were going to run a slightly larger A330-200, but, in another change of plan, they will use a slightly larger-still B767-400 on a daily basis.

This also means the cabin comfort is better for passengers, as the B767-400 is usually reserved for slightly higher yielding routes such as LHR.

It will be nice to see a B767-400 back in the regions again, its not often we see them outside of LHR.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
