Some observations from today;

The old west pier of T2 is now totally gone.

The new pier one still grows; the shells of 8 gate towers (4 on each side) are now clearly visible.

The link pier seems to be about half built now; it appears to stop to the south east where the new terminal building will connect into it. The size of which is apparent from where the link pier abruptly stops.

The old drop off exit ramp has now virtually all gone.

The new road route though the old M56 terminal one roundabout is clearly visible.

And the airports road network is an absolute confusing cluster at the moment!

Another shot of the new pier courtesy of the excellent "CCGE29" on SSC.

The size of the thing is so much bigger than I expected from the CGI. Should be plenty of circulatory space when it opens (I don't think this pier will have much larger than A330 sized aircraft using it).

I plan to try to get up to the airport in the next couple of weeks to provide some updated photos of the TP.

In the meantime I noticed an annotation on a diagram that refers to the apron work to the west if Pier 1 as being "New taxiway Lima".

Great photos Scottie Dog! You really get a feel for the scale of this project.

Excellent thank you.

Do we know if travelators will be provided in the link and/or main pier? I hope so!

It shouldn’t be long I’d before the steel starts to rise for the terminal building. In the fifth photo down you can see what looks like wooden caps on the foundation pilings. Maybe the second crane will be for this next month?

In all honesty I do not know what is happening within the structures. Looking more closely at the 4th picture down it does seem that the link corridor is rather narrow to take a travellator. Having said that, if one assumes that only one direction of travel is required (one level being for departing passengers and the other for arrivals, and if you compare the diameter of the links to the station, then it might be possible to fit one in.

I posed the question on Dried Fruit as to when Pier 1 would be commissioned. The response, from a good and trusted source, was:

"April 2019. Terminal extension continues for another 12 months and so pax to be checked in at existing T2 processor and walked though new link in to Pier 1 past construction until terminal extension complete. And then Pier 3 begins!"

If you can then that would be appreciated.

hi their scottie, your photos are really good

i run a facebook group for the airport and just wondered if i could have your permission to share your photos on my group and obviously giving credit to yourself, would this be possible please?

I hope pier two doesn’t become one of those things that they’ll “add later”.

Still a hang up over pre clearance?

Great photos thanks Scottie Dog!

This connector corridor seems quite long and narrow, I guess there will be a gap for now for the new terminal extension to fit into?

I'm off to Brisbane in 20 days with Emirates, I'm staying at the Premier Inn around the corner and will see if I can have a nosy myself!

Well.

The link piers westerly march is either completed or is one set of girders away from completion. It’s north west end is now lined up with the new pier one.

The new pier one is slowly still extending north east to meet it. Thought there’s of course a little more link pier to next build to the south west to join pier one.

Think this is the appropriate place for this award!

"Losberger De Boer, working with principal contractors, Laing O’Rourke, has completed the new semi-permanent gate lounge at Manchester Airport. It notes the opening marks the first milestone of the airport’s £1bn investment programme, known as the Manchester Airport Transformation Programme (MAN-TP). And the gate lounge was named ‘Building of the Month’ by Astron, one of Europe’s leading steel suppliers to the building industry"

That report is oddly-timed. I used that same gate lounge on 16th September last year and it had already been operational for several weeks by then.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
