Progressing rapidly. I must confess I am surprised at the pace of progress here. We will just have to wait and see what progress is like on the fit out etc.

Indeed. The few interior photos so far show HVAC it seems already installed. One would think as it becomes weathertight from the end towards the link they’ll also begin basic fit out from that end.

I posted this on another forum; are they planning on an elevated temporary walkway from the end of the completed link pier to the old terminal building, or is it planned to have the terminal extension completed to the apron edge too, ready for pier ones opening? Even if it’s a walkway lined by construction walls? If anyone remembers the maze of continually changing wooden corridors when the Station was expanded you’ll know what I envisage.

I can't answer your question - at least not at thus moment - however I understand Pier 1 will open in Spring 2019.

I'll go and look later in the day for an email that I think I read that referred to the access to Pier 1 from the terminal.

Out of interest what it HVAC - maybe Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning?

Yes that’s it. I was trying to sound all professional like. Pipes in the ceiling :)

Please do see if you can find the interim pier access info.

Here we go -

A busy day for me and reading!!

I have just re-read the NATS Air Supplement 20/2017 and noticed the following paragraph:

1.1 Major work will take place between Spring 2017 and early 2024 to construct an extension to Terminal Two, with a large multi-storey car park, piers, associated aprons and taxi lanes. There will be major works ongoing in landside areas, with tower and mobile cranes operating. There will also be multiple phases of airside works, involving stand and taxiway closures, taxiway diversions, re-configurations and re-designations. From Summer 2018 onwards additional aprons and taxi lanes will be introduced.

Since this document was only published on 3rd August 2017 I assume that the timescale quoted is fairly accurate. The section that I have highlighted in bold makes me believe that Taxiway Lima will be active from this summer and, could possibly, also mean new stands around the back of Pier 1.

I was thinking down the same lines this afternoon otherwise things will be very tight at nighttime

@marni1971 - I did say in a post dated 12th March to ignore the plan that I had previously posted as it was out of date.

That plan was only the first of a whole series that showed how the full development would happen through until 2024(?).

Whilst I believe that the size has been reduced, what is now being constructed is what we have. Work on Pier 3 is planned to start in 2020 for completion in 2020 and that will have 2 A380 airbridged stands, plus 1 remote for bussing.

I hope that helps. As and when I receive any other information, provided that it will not breach confidentiality, I will post it.

NB: Edited to correct pier numbers.

Pier two... would that be pier three? Moving towards terminal one from the currently being built pier one was pier two (removed off recent renders), pier three and then pier four (connecting to pier C)

Thanks as always.

It’s looking like the end most pepper pot on the new pier one is now at least partly clad. Assuming black is the final colour as on the pier itself.

And in their infinite wisdom, traffic for T3 from the M56 is now officially directed down Ringway Rd west and then Ringway rd at the Airport Hotel. Except the right turn lane at the lights into Ringway Rd can’t cope and the queue tails back down the main carriageway.

That interior pier photo... wow! That was thin air six months ago - literally. I assume that’s a toilet block. Here’s hoping they don’t ruin the space with retail clutter like they did with T2.

But the pepper pot... is that walkway cladding? What happened to glazed walls?

I can't help feeling that the original T2 architecture (all be it very 90s) was much more adventurous. We are certainly living in the time of cladding.

And stays working. Any moving walkways and escalators need to stay working.
Unlike the mess that terminal 1 is in when I passed through it a week ago.
Terminal 1 is well past it's sell by date. I, for one, will be glad when it is gone in its current form.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
