Any reason why Gate 205's Airbridge is being removed? Thought the other Piers don't start till later on? Or is it Unrelated?

View attachment 8347 If you look at the attached photo, stand 205 sits between the 2 aircraft and there is no space for it to be used if a 747 is on 206 and anything is on 204.

Second attempt and here you go.

Ah OK, I was aware it couldn't be used if large aircraft were on the other stands but wasn't aware they actually removing it for good. Thanks for that.

I think this image helps to demonstrate Scottie Dog's point. I'm not sure if it is a recent update but both Apple Maps and Google maps now support full 3D views of the Airport, not just the 2D images. (This level of detail had previously been reserved for major cities). At least they do on my Mac.

Does this move suggest that as well as Stand 205, Stands 207 and 209 will also go as they have the same issues as can be seen in the attached images. This is the one area of the renders of the TP plan that the rendered images in the public domain lack detail, in which all T2 airbridges from 211 to 202 are left in place. Clearly the positioning of Pier 3 would render many of these stands inaccessible.

The render shows Pier 3 emerging from between 207 and 206, which would make use of 208, 207, 206 and 205 impossible. Obviously Pier 3 is still some way off so I'm guessing 205 removal is due to narrow body aircraft switching to Pier 1 next Summer and Stands 210, 208, 206, 204 and 202 becoming wide body stands. I imagine 203 will also be maintained?

Does anyone have a clearer idea of which of the current air bridge stands on T2 will be retained?

After meeting Land23R for a coffee it was time for another foray around the MANTP site. I hope you enjoy the results:

A quick view of the "Office Accommodation" for the MANTP Project. This must be one of the most glorified part-a-cabin complexes I have seen.

This Finnair A319 caught my eyes as it appeared to be so small - now back to the TP Project!

Pier 1 in the background is just partially cladded.

The end of Pier one with the link bridge to the Node. The glazing seems to be quite extensive on the upper (departures) level, whilst that on the lower level (arrivals) is less. Presumably arriving passengers just want to get processed and away.

Another wide-angled shot across to Pier 1.

This post will be further updated on Wednesday.

Updates now included, however captions still to be added.....

T2 extension steelwork - looking towards the apron.

T2 steel work looking towards the current terminal, with the link corridor to the right and the new car park on the left.

The end of Pier 1 with the new concrete for taxiway Lima in the foreground.

Looking across the new taxiway/apron at the end of Pier 1.

Steel work for T2 extension.

Side view of the T2 extension - now showing 4 sections. This is I believe almost the full size as the corridor on the right appears to be aligned to connect to the terminal in due course.

End of the link corridor (Pier 1 goes off to the right) with T2 extension in the background.

Glazing on Pier 1.

General view (pardon the obtrusive fencing) of one of the nodes on the west side of Pier 1.

The node on the end of Pier 1 with link-bridge. Current T2 in the background.

View across from Staff West towards stand 72. By now it was raining heavily and I used the wrong aperture setting!

New T2 "Super 7" car park.

This week's photo of the Link Connection, looking towards T2. Compare this shot with the one below that I took on 20th March.

Many thanks Scottie Dog, great snaps! May I ask if anyone has an update on the pier situation? I am fully aware that these sort of projects are rumour heavy. But may I ask if anyone has any substance to the downscaling of this project and whether we will actually only be seeing a possibility of two piers maximum indefinitely? Does anyone have any news on the extension of T3? I saw a render online a while ago showing an extension from Stand 55 consisting of a pier with apron/stands either side...

The current new Pier #1 is scheduled to open April 2019. As of January this year Pier #3 is next with work due to start in 2020, for completion 2022. Pier #4 should be completed in 2024. Pier #2 was to be the proposed USPC facility and had no specific date, that I'm aware of

As for T3 I'm not certain of any plans. Things change and I understand the proposal you refer to has been "binned as any work involving Ringway Rd would prove o be economically unviable due to all of the utilities that run under it.

I hope that helps and I'm happy to be corrected if things have changed.

Out of interest, if Pier 1 is due to open in April 2019, why would there be a year's gap before work starts on Pier 3? Is it because of developments inside the extended terminal or perhaps major airfield works? Or is it to ensure maximum availability of a/c stands during certain phases of the work?

Another very good question. Maybe it's due to stand shortages, as you suggest, whilst taxiway Echo is being constructed as that, together with any reconfiguration of Delta will possibly mean the loss of the remotes on the Western Apron.

PS - I've asked a contact if he can give a specific answer to the question.

The pace is still remarkable.

One oddity - the terminal extension landslide facing "wall" seems to be finished. All uniform and tidy. Yet it’s well short of the drop off ramp. Shouldn’t there be more to build to be the same depth as T2?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
