THATS why the forecourt canopy looks.... bad. The art had it connected to the roof. In reality it’s connected much lower to the side or the building. Doesn’t look as smart IMHO.

Thanks for posting, as always :)

....and it appears to slopes down towards the road, rather than needing guttering at the join between the roof and terminal.

Looking forward to the finished product, but there are some disappointing things coming out of it at the moment. I understand everything has a budget and this project is no exception, but they seem to be cutting back on lost of things that were initially in the design.
I’d be interested to know how much money has been allocated to the different projects within the TP...some say it looks cheap but it shouldn’t if it has to last us well into the future...£1bn was the budget overall?

The link to the pier with the wall of white cladding and narrow windows looks very bland, as does the wedge of black cladding for the sorting facility. Internals are better in my opinion. I think the use of some more glazing would have been better, but it serves a purpose and that’s all the matters I suppose.

It maybe my age but I always thought that the original T2 had quite an impressive frontage, why is it that we cannot afford something original and striking, rather than something that's about imaginative as the front of a new supermarket? Value architecture and Engineering...

So I spent the weekend in Manchester visiting some friends and thought I would take the opportunity to write a quick(ish) review on my first experience of the new pier and T2. Arrived on Brussels airlines Friday night @9.40, hoping for an arrival on pier 1 but we parked on stand 211 at the main terminal good thing really as right next to immigration so from parked up until outside T2 only 15 mins
Today security very busy at about 3pm only 2 lanes open, disappointing, lots of people asking why is it so busy, security officers couldn’t really answer, although I would say not enough lanes open! New pier nice, airy and bright, flooring they have chosen must have been a mistake already marked in places, lesson learnt I hope for the 2 other piers Lighting in the pier good but some brightly lit others dim...must be a temporary problem I assume And the most annoying thing is the multiple boarding calls so you can't make out what’s been said, in T1 & T3 there seems to be an override but not here...
Oh and at the end of the boarding announcements it’s stated “please mind the gap to the aircraft” reminds me of our railway system...is there a big gap?
Overall functional and an improvement on T1 & T3 piers but lessons can be learnt...hopefully

A brief visit yesterday produced only a handful of new photos due to the majority of the ongoing work being out of sight.

Part 1

Work continues on the forecourt canopy

It will be interesting to see whether, when T2 is remodelled, they change the old canopy to fit with the new.

These are the new remote stands that will basically end up serving pier 2. You can just see the head-of-stand equipment being installed on the left-hand side.

Looking down - through annoying fencing - at the work on the new Lima stands.

Part 2

Over at T3 the new car park is growing at a great pace. What a shame the same can not be said of the small car park at T1 (although it does look as if it might be ready before the start of November!!)

Finally, but not strictly in the category, is a bad shot of the TCX A330 parked on Taxiway Echo behind Pier B and the UAE A380

Here are some fairly recent photos, taken by my friend "battenfobs" and posted on SSC, of the work going on within T2X.

The atrium area near the top of the escalators on level 4.

The ceiling 'feature' appears to represent a bee's honeycomb

Remember that these are taken from on a temporary work platform and therefore the ceiling height will be much greater in reality.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
