A new airport.... South Yorkshire Airport City?

Latest diversion tactical PR about the radar contract being agreed with Raytheon at a £7.7million price tag. Some may question why it’s being announced now, perhaps the realisation already that people can access the ACP docs? Anyhow, the usual skeptic in me would be questioning why this is ‘news’ when back in April and May Ros Jones was trying to strong arm support for the loan by suggesting that not supporting it would leave a cost of £50million for cancellation of orders already made, of which one of those was apparently this.

I might therefore be minded to call this ‘olds’.

if the peel take over of the harworth group happens, they will be more than happy to change the lease with the CDC

Peel already own 30% of the group…..What is apparent is the desperation of both CDC and SYMCA around the lease being played out in the public domain leaves them with very little, if any negotiation leavers over Peel……They need Peel (even more so if they were to acquire Harworth Group) to achieve economic regeneration in the area and that gives Peel the upper hand over any negotiations over DSA……If this transaction proceeds even more eggs will be in the Peel basket in the SYMCA area further weakening SYMCA hold over them…..

Why on this planet would you think that? With all due respect, it would strengthen Peel’s already considerable hand as an economic regeneration partner. What are the Harworth Group known for in this area? Ah yes the regeneration of brownfield pit sites into industrial estates and housing. Sound like a familiar concept?

Meanwhile Chadwick is gloating that the approach lights exist! Far as I’m aware the ones on the 02 end were never removed, just the ones on 20 due to the agreement with the land owner. I doubt they’ve been replaced yet?

Regarding a possible Peel takeover of Haworth, that would only consolidate Peels position and strengthen their hand against SYMCA and CDC. I assume rabbitfoot was on the hard stuff again last night.

if you want to build 29,000 house you will need the local authority to be in full agreement with you.

If this takeover happens it will provide Peel with greater leverage on a regional redevelopment level. Whilst the council hold planning authority then cannot prevent Peel from redeveloping land in the area in line with national policy. Attempting to block them on the grounds of then not budging on the lease would be thrown out at appeal if they attempted to. The council would also risk losing out on regional growth funding, job creation etc. Peel know all this, they want to take over Haworth because they believe they’re too inefficient and there’s too may fingers in the pie.

Burnham might change the framework which could give CDC more leverage in theory, but they’re striking now fully aware of this. Changes would take years to implement, way outside of the scope of the topic if this discussion.

Flew over today just south of the 02 threshold - didn't see any approach lights. Over the fence from the runway end there are significant quarrying operations which seem to be almost impinging upon the runway centreline.
That massive speculative build Panattoni warehouse appeared deserted so it would seem there are still no takers.

Interesting, I thought they were still there just the 20 end where the land owner was being paid for them to be installed there. The quarry is quite close now isn’t it, I don’t recall it being there when I was operating out of there, maybe I just wasn’t looking out of the window enough 😉 but what would they do with the quarry afterwards? Fill it with water? Use it for landfill? You don’t want either at the end of an active runway, wildlife hazard.

As for Panattoni, it’ll be filled once the airport land becomes something else.

Chadwick has since posted a video of his visit, his evidence that the approach lights exist is that there is one row still existing just prior to the threshold of 20 because they’re still on airport land. I’m not sure whether he’s being purposefully deceiving or not, but it won’t matter to the sycophants and it’s just a symptom of a much bigger problem.

Considering this was apparently signed in June I wonder now what they’re trying to hide every time they release another bit of contrived ‘news’.

I note this week that CDC are overspending already, not really the sort of outfit that should be going around opening failed airports.

Doncaste FreePress reports “
Senior City of Doncaster Council directors are being encouraged to “actively identify opportunities to reduce expenditure” as early financial estimates project a £6.2million overspend this year.
The local authority’s first financial monitoring report was shared with Mayor Ros Jones’ cabinet just two months into the 2026/27 financial year, having been brought forward due the “emergence of a number of financial pressures”.”

That’s nothing….just wait to see your annual loses after running the airport 🙄🤣

84% less the leeds council overspend last year, and what did bradford council bailout cost ? 200million ?

And Doncaster is at least 40% smaller in size, therefore it would be lower. And my statement simply was that it will increase with loses from an airport that is, according to their own figures going to lose money for many years.

Leeds and Bradford aren’t however pouring millions of £s into a loss making vanity project though are they……Instead they had more sense and sold their holdings in LBA for a significant profit and handed the commercial risk to the private sector to manage……

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
